FEGS Annual Quiz Night – Cancelled :-(

26th June 2024Mrs S Field
The FEGS Quiz Night this Friday has, sadly, had to be cancelled due to not having sold a sufficient number of tickets to host the event.

FEGS would like to thank those of you who have purchased tickets and confirm that you will receive a full refund via ParentPay.

We are very keen to hear from parents about the sort of events they would like to attend and, if possible, why you did not purchase tickets to attend the Quiz this week. This information  would really help us to plan for future events.
Please email any feedback to: [email protected]

Attention; parents & Carers family and friends, Staff, Ex-Students and ‘Old Boys’

Fancy a Friday night brain stretch?  Want a chance to test your fantastic knowledge?

Our annual quiz night returns with fun and games!

Whether you are competitive or not we invite you to come along and join us for a thrilling evening hosted by our talented quizmaster, headteacher Mr Lamb, and a chance for your table to win a £50 cash prize!

The evening will also include a game of Heads & Tails, and of course, thirst quenching drinks/snacks will be available from the FEGS Bar.

Tickets go on sale in the afternoon of Friday 7 June (today!).

Suggested team size is maximum 8 adults per table, and if you haven’t got enough people for a team, come along and we can help you to join up with another table.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.parentpay.com with your existing login details, at a cost of £7 each.

Date: Friday 28 June 2024

Venue: Upper School Main Hall

Time: Doors will open at 7pm for a 7:30pm start, and an end time of approx. 11pm

To pre-reserve a table for your team, please email FEGS at [email protected] after you have purchased your tickets.

Ticket sales will close on Friday 21st June.

Bar payments can be made by cash or card on the night and bring extra coins to play some games!

All to help raise money for our school…… this is not a night to miss!

Limited tickets, first come first served!

If you have any questions, please email: [email protected]

See you there!

As you know, the quiz evening is fast approaching and we would like to make the best out of this event for our school, we would like to ask if you or your business/employer are able to help in any of these ways? …. These are great responsible business initiatives!:

 *1. RAFFLE DONATIONS*

Depending on the nature of the business, your company/employer may be willing to donate goods or services we could use as raffle prizes, which would effectively be good advertising for them. Examples could include vouchers for free treatment (manicure, facial, etc), meal for two, discount off products or services (e.g. free first consultation meeting, free assessment and estimate, etc), cash donations or products themselves. We will promote/share your kind donations our social media pages.

Please do reach out to your employer/consider whether your company could contribute and, if so, contact us ([email protected]).

 *2. MATCH FUNDING*

Match funding involves an employer/company matching the money raised by employees for the benefit of a charity. The exact terms of how this works and any caps that apply to the money matched would be set out in each company’s own policy.

Please ask your employer whether they offer match funding. You can do this by sending your employer’s HR team an email (below is a template/draft email you can adapt to use for this):

Template/draft to send your employer asking about match funding:

Dear [NAME]

I am writing to ask whether [NAME OF EMPLOYER] offer “match funding” support to staff involved in charitable activities?

The parents’ association of my [child’s/children’s] school (Friends of Enfield Grammar School is a registered charity, number 269212) organises activities to raise much needed funds for the school and I am hoping to be involved in the next event.

I know that some employers engage in match funding (matching the money raised by a member of staff, which then goes to the charity) and wanted to ask if this is something the firm/company] does?

Kind regards

Please Note: You are welcome to bring your own snacks, but NO drinks are permitted, other than drinks purchased from the FEGS Bar. Please be reminded that the school has a ‘no nuts on the premises’ policy. This event has a ‘no refunds’ policy.

What a night! We ended last term with a musical extravaganza….

Our Latin Night was a huge success! Super proud of all the performers. Seeing them progress more and more at each concert is a real treat. Shout out to the drumming club who made their debut and absolutely smashed it! Great atmosphere – thank you to all who came.

Now on to rehearse for our final concert of the year……. The Music Soiree: Back to the 70s…… on 14 July.

Year 7 Interprets Ashes57 Art Style – Superb!

12th June 2024Mrs S Field

Ashes57 is an accomplished photographer, illustrator and designer; here is a collage from some of our Year 7 interpretations of her style incorporating, cityscapes, landscapes, thinking of form and perspective, detail and spots of colour……it’s visually very striking!

A distinctive visual style links her illustration, painting and print work – images which are dense and detailed with fine and intricate lines. Her complex cityscapes, rendered in a largely monochromatic palette with an occasional burst of colour, are playgrounds for a revolving cast of DJs, musicians and revellers.

Middlesex Athletics Results

11th June 2024Mrs S Field
Congratulations to our three EGS students who competed last week in the Middlesex Athletics ESAA Qualifiers.
They came in 6th, 7th and 9th and, unfortunately, did not qualify for the England National Athletics event as they only take one competitor from each county.
However, coming in 6th, 7th and 9th in the whole of Middlesex is still an incredible achievement.
Well done boys!

Congratulations to our Y10 Bronze DofE Boys!

11th June 2024Mrs S Field

Qualifying Expedition …….Done!!!

We are delighted to say that all the boys passed this section of the award over the weekend with flying colours – it was wonderful to see all the skills they had learnt put to the test, their resilience and camaraderie; teamwork and empathy.

A huge congratulations to them all!

Only the finishing up of a few activity sections and we will be in the position to award some Bronze certificates and badges very soon…. :-))

Now, who’s signing up to do their Silver Award?!

Year 10 National Space Centre Visit

10th June 2024Mrs S Field

Year 10 pupils recently had an ‘out of this world’ experience when they travelled to the National Space Centre in Leicester!

In this immersive visit they wandered through galleries and exhibitions, seeing real life rockets and an actual piece of the Moon!

Whilst there, our students took part in an interactive workshop using maths, computing and problem solving skills to program the LEGO NXT rovers to complete challenges on Martian terrain mats.

They also attended a very impressive presenter-led show in the full dome, 360 degree St. Patrick Moore Planetarium, based on space and how astronauts are adapted to completing missions in such extreme conditions.

⚽ 5 Games. 5 Finals. 5 Wins. 5 Borough Cups!🏆
🔥 EGS on fire!

Our Y10 football team made it four Borough Cup wins for the school last week with an incredible come‑from‑behind 4–1 victory!
And they didn’t have long to wait for company…
Yesterday, our Y7s delivered a brilliant performance of their own, winning their cup final 4–2!

That means 5 out of 5 Borough Cups this year — a clean sweep!

Huge congratulations to all the boys who represented the school so brilliantly, and a massive thank‑you to our Sports Department for their hard work and support – definitely a reflection of our school motto: As Much As I Can’!
