The role of the governing body is to provide strategic leadership to the School, ensuring accountability for its educational and financial performance.  The governing body has three core functions:

  • Strategic Leadership of the Academy Trust – the board defines the trust vision for high quality and inclusive education in line with it’s charitable objects. It establishes and fosters the trust’s culture, and sets and champions the trust strategy
  • Accountability and Assurance – the board has oversight of the operations and performance of the academy trust, including the provision of education, pupil welfare, overseeing and ensuring appropriate use of funding and effective financial performance, and keeping the estate safe and well-managed
  • Engagement – the board has strategic oversight of relationships with stakeholders. The board involves parents, schools, communities so that decision-making is supported by meaningful engagement

Governors (also known as Trustees in an Academy setting), alongside the Senior Leadership Team, set the aims and objectives for the School.  Through its committees, the governing body then set the policies and targets for achieving those aims and objectives.
