Battle of the Bands Rocked!

14th April 2025Mrs S Field

Just before we broke up for the Easter break, 15 bands battled it out at our annual Battle of the Bands competition.

Every band brought the house down with their phenomenal performances and made it incredibly difficult for our judges to choose the winners.

We welcomed back ex-Grammar boys Emre Nalbantoglu (@emrenalbant._) and Romeo Gjakova (@romeoagrela) as our special guest judges, who were so torn about their decisions because the level of talent was so high throughout the evening.

A number of prizes were awarded, so congratulations to the following students:
• Musical Hero – Aaron Boakye
• Best Featured Instrument (Junior) – Nicolas Gills
• Best Featured Instrument (Senior) – James Lovell
• Best Drummer – Barnaby Desoer
• Best Vocalist – Jack Majer
• Best Piano Player – Fenton Tebb
• Best Bassist – Alex Smol
• Best Guitarist – Theo Chrysanthou

There was a huge amount of anticipation to see which band would take the trophy for Best Band.….. It was finally revealed that GROOVE BAND won following their awesome mash up of Backstreet Boys’ Backstreet’s Back and Muse’s Time is Running Out.

Congratulations to the band!

We are so proud of our students for their absolutely fantastic performances. It is a privilege to be part of their musical journey’s and we very much look forward to seeing what they produce in our final concert of the year, the Summer Soiree on Friday 11 July 2025.

Thank you to everyone who came along and to FEGS for running the bar.

We hope to see you all at the Summer Soiree!

A Spectacular Christmas Concert….

18th December 2024Mrs S Field

Last Friday we had our annual Christmas concert which was a sell-out with not even standing room to spare!

The Year 7 Band and ‘Strings & Things’ made their debut, our Steel Pans group wowed the crowd, and Year 8, 9 and 10 bands rocked hard albeit in a festive manner, with Groove Band, Little Big Band and the Rhythm & Brass band all bringing sonorous tones to proceedings.

Student led bands, Space Goose and Purple Elixir brought the house down and the evening was raucously finished by Senior Band featuring members of staff and the wild man of rock, our very own Mr Leverno. A fitting end to a fantastic, festive, fun-filled evening.

A huge thank you to Chaslet Sound (parent to one of our Year 8s) who provided the amazing lights and sound helping to create this spectacular concert.

The dedication and  passion of our music department team are not only teachers of music, they provide a place of creativity, respect, opportunities and support for our students. They are one big musical family……we are really very proud of them all (staff and students).

Happy Christmas!

Can You Help Support Our School Enrichment Provision?

3rd December 2024Mrs S Field
As the academic year flies by, we are met with financial challenges that impact our ability to provide many of the additional enrichment experiences that have always been a vital part of our student’s education. Activities such as school trips, cultural capital days, school clubs and inspiring science events, are no longer as feasible as they once were.
These experiences are not mere luxuries; they are an essential part of our students’ education, fostering growth, inspiration, and a well-rounded learning environment. For many of our boys, particularly our boys who may not have access to these opportunities outside of school, these activities offer exposure to new ideas, perspectives, and skills.
To ensure that we can continue offering these enriching opportunities, we are seeking your help. Your generosity will have a direct impact on the education of both our current and future students, allowing them to benefit from the full spectrum of experiences that help inspire, motivate, and develop well-rounded individuals.
If you are able to donate towards this, please follow this link to our GoFundMe fundraising page: https://gofund.me/0bf74bd8
OR via this QR code:
Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference in ensuring that we can provide the educational experiences our students deserve.
Please contact our finance office directly at [email protected] if you would like to discuss other ways to donate or support. Your generosity will directly support enrichment activities, ensuring that every student has access to a full and inspiring education.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to Enfield Grammar School.

Back in March, Year 7 students participated in the @write2speakuk initiative and the impact was truly inspiring. The sessions provided a platform for students to explore their voices, express themselves with confidence, and engage in meaningful discussions—all guided by outstanding facilitators.

The expertise and enthusiasm of the facilitators were central to the programme’s success. Their ability to connect with students, encourage participation, and nurture creativity ensured that even the most reserved students felt empowered to share their thoughts.

The emotional impact of the initiative was clear. Students not only developed their writing and speaking skills but also grew in confidence. Many took pride in their work, stepping outside their comfort zones to express themselves in ways they hadn’t before. The energy in the room was electric as ideas took shape and came to life.

Write2Speak has left a lasting impression, equipping students with valuable skills that extend beyond the classroom. It was an enriching, transformative experience—one that will continue to resonate with them in the future.

The Art Department took their Year 11 GCSE students to visit the Tate Modern, London and walk along the Southbank.

The trip gave students the opportunity to experience the Turbine Hall and view artwork in this vast industrial setting. World famous art by artists such as Picasso, Leger, Braque, Matisse was exhibited alongside new contemporary artworks Outi Pieski, Arahmaiani and Farah Al Qasimi.

From Waterloo station, we ambled along the Southbank, taking photographs of the architecture and landmarks. The skyline showcasing the London Eye, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge, the Shard and Cutty Sark at Greenwich. On the walk back to Liverpool Street station, we visited the bombed out ruins of the Church of St. Dunstan in the East. We stopped for a moment to appreciate the glory of nature entwined around the gothic archways, walls and windows of the historic church.

The day was full of wonder. Imagination and thought provoking questions were raised. The Tate Modern and the buzz of the Southbank providing plentiful inspiration for the students Art GCSE Externally Set Assignment.

We look forward to seeing the students using the inspiration of the trip to develop their ideas and create new, exciting and innovative artwork.

The journey to the Enfield Regional Finals of the @jackpetcheyfoundation and @speakers.trust `Speak-Out Challenge` started with an intense, full-day workshop at Enfield Grammar School.

30 students participated, working hard to refine their public speaking skills. The workshop was packed with engaging sessions, expert coaching, and helpful feedback that prepared everyone to perform their best.

The students then moved on to the Assembly Finals, where six outstanding speakers were selected to represent the school. The finalists included:
Alex Aning-Bonsu, Aiden Goldring, Nikodem Kotwica, Daniel Obisesan, Burhan Mehdi and Michael Svoboda
These six students each delivered powerful and thought-provoking speeches, impressing both their peers and teachers with their confidence and eloquence.

Michael Svoboda had the honour of being the first speaker at the Enfield Regional Finals, held at @officialstignatiuscollege in February 2025. Opening a regional event like this is always a challenge, but Michael handled it with poise and confidence. His speech, "Our Dreams are Waiting" was delivered with passion and clarity, leaving a lasting impression on everyone in the room.

Michael`s parents, sibling, and teachers were present to cheer him on, and they couldn’t have been prouder of his performance. His hard work and dedication were evident, and they watched with immense pride as he stepped onto the regional stage.

While Michael didn’t make it to the top spot, his participation in this prestigious event was a huge accomplishment. He represented Enfield Grammar School with pride and his performance was definitely a standout moment of the evening, a clear demonstration of his hard work and passion, marking the beginning of his journey as a public speaker.
