Our School Governors: ‘EGS Governing Body’ – An Introduction

It’s time to start introducing some of our School Governors who are all volunteers in the extremely important role they play to support and guide the school. Over the next few weeks, we will ‘spotlight’ some of our governors so that you can get to know them.
 
Our Enfield Grammar School Governing Body is made up of various governors;
Foundation Trustees, Parent Governors, Staff Governors, Community and Co-Opted Governors.
These governors sit on sub-committees that hold 3-4 meetings per year; Resources & Management, Standards & Achievement, Stakeholders and Admissions as well as the FGBs.

Horticulturist Visits the EGS Garden Club

The EGS Garden Club have been really lucky to have forged links with the charity School Food Matters. Their support with the Know Your Onions Project has been amazing, offering wonderful opportunities and hands-on learning for our students.  In Spring we were visited by a Horticulturist, Emma, who spent the morning with us showing us how to plant out vegetables, different types of seeds and crops, what is good to grow and much more. We were lucky to have a sunny day for the visit!

 

Lower school Jubilee Poster!

As the saying goes…’.better late than never’…. to post about this lovely Jubilee poster that has been on display in the Lower School reception area for the past 2 weeks.
It was a collaborative colouring project completed by Year 7s in their form time to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Below, proudly presenting the poster are Harrison and Mohamed.

A boy who reads, is a man who is curious
At Enfield Grammar School we passionately believe that “You learn to read so you can read to learn”.
Led by our dedicated Literacy Co-ordinator, there is a whole school focus on reading as we strive to engender our students’ love of books and reading.
The ability to read, write, and communicate effectively is an ongoing life skill that we teach, both implicitly and explicitly, in lessons.
Outside of the classroom, staff continue to embed a reading culture through our form time reading programme, library competitions, reading challenges and guest speakers.

Ancient Civilisations Explored by Year 10

Our Year 10 historians have been involved in Black History Workshops discovering the beauty of black ancient civilizations.
Did you know that there were over 15 different Ancient Black African Civilisations dating back 17, 000 years? The oldest: the Zingh Empire 15000 BCE.
