Research by the National Literacy Trust showed that poetry significantly benefits the lives of children and young people; ‘where a quiet voice can become a loud voice’, and this was so true in our Poetry Slam this year, where some of our pupils, who were initially nervous to perform in front of others, ended up performing more than one poem!
Marking National Poetry Day just before the half-term break, Mrs Rudolph held our annual ‘open mic’ Poetry Slam in both Lower and Upper schools making it accessible for all students. By all accounts it was an extremely fun event with all boys receiving merits, a sweet treat and a certificate to acknowledge their participation.

The library has helpful books covering a whole range of worries that teenagers may have. The books include positive strategies for healthy minds and bodies, and will give you reassurance that you are not alone. The books will be on display (they can be borrowed) in the library. If you are not sure, please speak to Mrs Rudolph, Library Manager.
Positively Teenage gives you tools to approach your teenage years with optimism and understanding and to develop real wellbeing for life.
The media so often portray adolescence negatively but this book shows you how to approach these years far more positively so that you can really flourish and be in control. You’ll find simple strategies to develop a positive attitude, growth mindset, self-understanding, determination and resilience and you’ll see how those strengths will help you cope with any challenges, enjoy life and achieve your potential.
Full of practical, proven strategies for physical and mental health, Positively Teenage will show you lots of ways to flourish physically and mentally – from doing things you enjoy to learning new skills; looking after your diet, exercise and attitude to being healthy online; getting great sleep to understanding your personality – allowing you to take control of many areas of your life. With these new strengths and skills, you can survive any storms and thrive on the challenges of your exciting life.
Scattered throughout are POSITIVE BOOSTS: quick ideas for actions you can take to build positivity and wellbeing. Add them into your life and use your imagination and your new understanding to invent others.
Positively Teenage gives you the power to let yourself flourish, achieve and be who you want to be. Use your powers well! Be truly, positively, teenage! Stand tall, stretch your arms wide, take a deep breath and say, loudly (or in your head), ‘I can do this!’

The Enfield team are scouting for cross-country runners for the upcoming London Youth Games – all details in the poster below:
Here are some more results from the games last week.
It was a very busy week and EGS were amazing – look at these results!
Congratulations to every single team!
On Friday we took Music Scholars, Music GCSE BTEC and A Level students, as well as members of our newly formed Student Leadership Team to the Dugdale Centre to watch a talk called “Dropping Knowledge”.
Award winning DJ and producer, DJ Mark Anthony took us through the history of black music as part of our ongoing celebrations for Black History Month. We learnt about and listened to an array of inspiring black musicians and explored their significance in music history.
The students were fantastic and we even had a couple of them get up to demonstrate their best Michael Jackson “Thriller” dance. We very much look forward to Part 2 of the talk.
Here are the results from previous games and the fixtures scheduled so far for this week:
Tonight is the annual drinks & nibbles evening followed by their AGM. Please do come along and meet the committee…..
