Guest Speaker: Tim Allan – Political and Communications Expert

We were very fortunate to have Tim Allan visit our sixth form and give an inspiring talk to our students. Tim is a  Public Relations Consultant and founder of Portland Communications, a political consultancy and public relations agency.

Tim served as a senior adviser to Tony Blair whilst he was in opposition and in government in the 1990s and also became the Deputy Press Secretary in Downing Street. He went on to become the former Director of Corporate Communications at BSkyB and earnt an MBA from INSEAD.

We thank Tim for his time – our students were curious and engaging, learning from a professional with such knowledge and insight.

Black History Month at EGS

  • delivered BH based lessons in most subjects
  • celebrated black female writers
  • cooked and baked traditional food
  • took part in form time activities and quizzes

International Men’s Day

Let’s all take time to think about and appreciate the positive impacts that a close male relation or friend may have had on us and let them know they are appreciated and needed.

In support of Movember, this coming Friday, our Lower School students are encouraged to buy a moustache (20p) to wear for the day from the lower school – or they can wear one of their own!

We also ask that any spare money/change can be brought in to the lower school office to donate to the Movember charity (in support of men’s health and wellbeing)

DofE Silver Expedition Successfully Completed

Just prior to the half-term, our Year 11 Duke of Edinburgh boys who are completing their Silver Award went off to the Peak District for their qualifying expedition.

A challenge taken in their stride (literally!) ….. great experiences, great camaraderie, great teamwork, great scenery …. all in all, a ‘great’ success!

This time they stayed in YHA accommodation to introduce them to a budget and self-sufficient means of being able to visit destinations without costing a fortune.

The DofE is an inclusive award programme delivered to young people: “A chance to discover new interests and talents. A tool to develop essential skills for life and work. A recognised mark of achievement, respected by employers. The hope is that they have fun, make friends, improve their self-esteem, and build confidence”

Dress Code: No dress code but something joyful or festive would be great!
