Some of our students have been enjoying after school gym sessions and making excellent use of their gym membership over the last term. It is great to see how committed they have been to improving their health and fitness. ‘Sweat With A Smile’ is owned and managed by Julius Andrew, based in the school’s gym facility at the Lower School. This is run as an independent school and school staff are not present. Julius will be running gym sessions for students over the summer holidays. See below for more information and contact details….

A bit after the event, but we would still like to acknowledge the performance of these EGS athletes in the Borough Championships recently.

Unfortunately the game was a shade ‘one-sided’ but a very valuable experience, particularly for the younger boys. MCC batted first, and despite some good bowling at times they managed to set a large target. One or two poor shot choices and tight bowling from the MCC saw the school bowled out for a low score.

EGS Staff v Students Golf Tournament

Our annual Staff v Students Golf Tournament took place and in a hard-fought battle, the students deservedly regained the prestigious golf trophy.
Well done to Jack, Charlie, Harry, Luke, Richie and Sam who took part and the staff are now already practicing for next year!

Y10 DofE Expedition – their expedition journey…a success!

This was the final section of the DofE Bronze Award that our Year 10s have been participating in since last October.

Several months of volunteering, learning a new skill and taking on a physical activity, combined with preparation sessions in school on navigating, map reading, first aid, outdoor cooking, how to pack a rucksack and 3 practice hikes all led to the final challenge of the expedition.

We are delighted to say that all our boys passed this section!

Having not run the DofE programme in EGS for several years, it has been wonderful to get it up and running again, giving our boys the opportunity of challenging themselves, learning to work as a team and getting a huge sense of achievement.

Update:
Archie finished joint 2nd in the European Pairs competition this weekend.
3 days of tough competition and racing in the heat on Friday took him through from the semi-final to the finals.
Congratulations Archie!
Archie has been selected for the Under 18 England Team at the Home International competitions.
 
He’s only just moved up into this age group on a new pony & had attended only one viewing trial out of two available….shows what you can do with skill, belief and determination – positive thinking, positive outcome 🙂
 
We wish Archie all the best in any upcoming competitions.
