A roundup of what’s been going on in school over the past few weeks…
Earlier this term, Year 9 students were taken to the Royal London Observatory to have an experience of a lifetime with the astronauts. Apart from seeing the evolution of the clock over several decades, the boys got up close and personal with the stars in a planetarium show led by an expert astronomer. Amazing visualisations and real-life space photography combined to provide a truly unique view of the night sky, while live commentary from Observatory astronomers helped to make sense of the universe. Another wonderful experience and much enjoyed by both students and staff!
Over 95 students from Years 8 and 9 embarked on a thrilling journey to LEGOLAND Windsor, where they were rewarded for their exceptional behaviour and dedication to learning. The highlight of the trip was the Robotics Workshop, offering an immersive experience blending fun and education.
Guided by skilled instructors, students tackled space-themed challenges using LEGO Mindstorms Education Robots. Through programming and problem solving, they mastered concepts like algorithms and Boolean logic in a hands-on environment. Collaboration flourished as teams worked together to overcome obstacles, reinforcing the importance of teamwork.
Beyond technical skills, students honed essential soft skills as adaptability and resilience. As they departed, hearts full of fond memories and minds buzzing with newfound knowledge, they left inspired and eager to continue their STEM journey.
Our Music Scholars went on their theatre trip last week to see the award winning immersive production of Guys and Dolls at the Bridge Theatre. It was an incredible show and the boys had a wonderful time!

We’ve reached the end of term and have said goodbye to all our students for the Easter Holidays.
Many of the students (Y11 & Y13) will be revising over this period as the exams are not far away; just remember to take breaks and have some down time in between….look after yourself.
Please note that when we return to school it will be WEEK 1 of the timetable.
Monday 15 April – INSET Day – school will not be open to students APART from Year 11.
Tuesday 16 April – Everyone back to school as normal.
This fascinating session looked at a section of complex behaviours from the animal world including Batesian mimicry, parthenogenesis and camouflage!
It was a hands-on, animal-handling workshop experience brings pupils face to face with classification. It is also part of an experiential and interactive learning experience, which introduces learners to ZooLab animals including vertebrates and invertebrates. During the session we found out how nature-inspired solutions are influencing scientific, medical and engineering discovery.
Another great British Science Week experience put on by our Science Department for our students.

- Guess the Book in the Jar Competition – led by our Pupil Librarians
- Library Emoji Quiz
Winners of the various quizzes and competitions have been announced in school and any prizes/awards are on their way.

During British Science week March 2024, we were fortunate enough to have Dr. Szydlo perform his extravagant Chemistry Roadshow to all of our year 9s and 10s!
This roadshow was a series of fully risk-assessed exciting KS4 science demonstrations which is linked to the GCSE Science specification and wowed the students with a lot of visual effects.
These sessions were a great way to boost excitement around science for pupils and staff alike, as well as review their knowledge on KS4 GCSE science practicals.
Dr Szydlo has a rich history of delivering exciting and insightful roadshows for both Primary and Secondary school students. Dr Szydlo has been teaching Science for over 40 years, and routinely delivers sold-out lectures at the Royal Institution and TED talks. He has delivered his roadshows at prestigious universities, including Cambridge and Imperial College.
This unique lecture is seen by thousands of children every year and our year 9 and 10 pupils were fortunate enough to gain insight!!
