Student Spotlight: Michael Svoboda Year 7
Michael was chosen to compete for Enfield in Trampolining in the London Youth Games.
And, although he was competing against much older boys in higher rankings, Michael’s strong performance resulted in him coming 11th individually and 5th out of the 28 represented Boroughs.
Congratulations Michael! 🥉

Outdoor Learning

It’s lovely to walk around the school on a sunny day and come across a teacher who has taken the opportunity to deliver their lesson in the outdoors.
Earlier this week (when it was sunnier than today!) I came across Ms Ireland with her Y8 English class;
“Year 8 had the pleasure of sitting in the sunshine whilst reading ‘Of Mice and Men’ – the text they are currently studying. Year 8 are leading fantastic and moving discussions about racism, sexism and the prejudices many people still face, over 100 years since the novella was published.”

Happy Birthday Mrs Watson!

It was Mrs Watson’s Birthday yesterday (our wonderful Lower School Administrative Officer who keeps the office running smoothly) and our kind hearted boys from Gardening Club arrived with a couple of posies of Candula and Sweet Peas for her – how lovely.
Thank you to all the boys in gardening club, Mrs Watson was really touched.

A Visit From An EGS Legend

An EGS legend. A wonderful teacher. An amazing senior leader. An active ‘old boy’. A true gentleman……… sitting next to Mr Lamb, in our sunny lower school playground.

Today Peter Gross MBE visited his old stomping ground.

He was a student then a teacher, a supporter of FEGS and now is a well loved and respected Old Boy.

He made such a positive impact on so many EGS boys throughout the years – I wonder how many of you out there remember him?

EGS Swayed To The Music… Jazz & Acoustic Vibes

A very enjoyable Jazz and Acoustic Evening was held on Friday, 6th May with many of our school bands taking part, our choir and also some great performances from staff.

Special thanks to Miss Paula Thompson who sang a Bossa Nova number and to Mr David Hammer who played his vibraphone – an instrument we have not heard at school for some years.

It was a very informal and relaxed evening with a great atmosphere in the Hall – thanks to Mr Ness for those lights!

Thanks also to FEGS for running the bar and – of course, to all the students who performed and their friends and families who came to support them.

Our next Concert will be our Summer Music Soiree on Friday 8th July.

 

 

 

Steve Frew: Athlete Mentor Visit

Athlete mentor, Steve Frew, visited school this week to work with our sports scholars in years 7-10.
Steve was a Commonwealth Games Gold medal winning gymnast in Manchester in 2002, and was able to share his experiences of getting to that level despite disappointment in previous championships.
In a practical and theoretical way he got the boys to think about mental toughness, hunger to achieve, people skills, sports  knowledge, breaking barriers and planning for success.
All the boys worked well throughout the day and we look forward to Steve’s next visit in June.
