A fortnight of work experience for our Year 10 resulted in much valuable feedback; the boys have gained a much clearer understanding of various job roles and careers, and what it is like to be in a working environment. Employers have a chance to mentor students and help teach them some valuable skills.
Over the course of the 2 weeks, our staff went out and about all over London to meet up with most of the students in their places of work to check how they were getting on and receive feedback from the employers.
Students returned from their ‘postings’ either knowing that the industry they had experienced was exactly the one they would like to work within in the future or realising it really was not for them, thus saving further education in the wrong area. They now have a slightly better understanding of the working world and their lives enriched just that little bit more.
The only photos we have are of those young men who stayed with us in school and took up opportunities to work within the Catering and Premises departments. They were all given high praise for their commitment and effort that they put in to their jobs……and one photo of Nicholas who truly impressed Mrs McCall with the delicious sandwich he made for her in Tongue and Brisket!
Jack Petchey 2023-24 Award Winners
Although we all received the very sad news of the passing of Jack Petchey CBE last month, his foundation is set to continue recognising the achievements of young people for many more years.
EGS is fortunate to be recognised as Gold Award winners and our 2023-24 Jack Petchey winners for this year, as voted for by students and staff are: Ed H, Tamzid, Oscar, Taye, Tevaughn, Shakithyan, Jamal, Otis, Harris
CONGRATULATIONS to them all! These students have been outstanding in one way or another (achievement, commitment, overcoming challenge, contribution) which has been recognised by the school community. The boys have decided that the financial side of their awards go to the following areas:
Fantastic news to hear that ex-student, Josh, has been named as one of the flag bearers in the Paris Olympics.
Josh was with us from 2011 to 2018 and went onto study for a Bachelor of Laws at Westminster University.
Josh was part of the Enfield swim squad, and recently competed in the World Championships in Doha. Currently ranked 41st in the world, Josh, at the age of 24, is making his debut at the Paris Olympic Games representing Jamaica in the Men’s 100m Butterfly.
We wish him the best of luck for the Olympics and continued success following his dreams!
A fabulous trip to Belgium where the boys were absolutely amazing. Concerts in Bruges, Ostend, Ypres and plenty of beach football….they have all made some special memories together…and that includes Ms Green, Mr Escott, Mr Tate-Lovery & Mr Leverno!
Now to start planning for next year 🙂
