Y12 Progression Week

13th July 2022Mrs S Field
We recently had our Year 12 Progression Week during which a range of activities were made accessible to our young men, designed to be informative and help them as they prepare to take their next steps.

Students had the opportunity to explore essential career and life skills, as well as develop a clear understanding of the pathways available to them after Year 13, how they can best prepare for these opportunities and how to apply!

We welcomed a number of external guests, alongside some of our own staff, who ran some really engaging workshops for the boys as well as visits to employers, Brighton & Sussex University and the beach!

Horticulturist Visits the EGS Garden Club

5th July 2022Mrs S Field

The EGS Garden Club have been really lucky to have forged links with the charity School Food Matters. Their support with the Know Your Onions Project has been amazing, offering wonderful opportunities and hands-on learning for our students.  In Spring we were visited by a Horticulturist, Emma, who spent the morning with us showing us how to plant out vegetables, different types of seeds and crops, what is good to grow and much more. We were lucky to have a sunny day for the visit!

Y10 DofE Expedition – their expedition journey…a success!

30th June 2022Mrs S Field

This was the final section of the DofE Bronze Award that our Year 10s have been participating in since last October.

Several months of volunteering, learning a new skill and taking on a physical activity, combined with preparation sessions in school on navigating, map reading, first aid, outdoor cooking, how to pack a rucksack and 3 practice hikes all led to the final challenge of the expedition.

We are delighted to say that all our boys passed this section!

Having not run the DofE programme in EGS for several years, it has been wonderful to get it up and running again, giving our boys the opportunity of challenging themselves, learning to work as a team and getting a huge sense of achievement.

Our DofE Bronze Expedition Sets Off!

25th June 2022Mrs S Field

Our Year 10 boys have been learning new skills over the last few months; camping, outdoor cooking, map reading, practice hikes and completing each of the required DofE sections, volunteering, Physical and Skills.

This has all led up to the final part of the award: The Expedition, hiking to their overnight camp and then back again tomorrow.

We are lucky to have such a nice day to set them off on their hikes and wish them all the best. This is a test of endurance, independence, teamwork and a chance to have fun, make great memories and come out with a sense of achievement.

Good Luck Boys!

⚽ 5 Games. 5 Finals. 5 Wins. 5 Borough Cups!🏆
🔥 EGS on fire!

Our Y10 football team made it four Borough Cup wins for the school last week with an incredible come‑from‑behind 4–1 victory!
And they didn’t have long to wait for company…
Yesterday, our Y7s delivered a brilliant performance of their own, winning their cup final 4–2!

That means 5 out of 5 Borough Cups this year — a clean sweep!

Huge congratulations to all the boys who represented the school so brilliantly, and a massive thank‑you to our Sports Department for their hard work and support – definitely a reflection of our school motto: As Much As I Can’!
