Book: The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge

This dark, exciting novel delves into the world of religion versus science in the late 1800s. Faith is a fabulous character, undervalued and underestimated because of her sex, but determined to overcome every obstacle society puts into her path.

When Faith’s father is found dead under mysterious circumstances, she is determined to untangle the truth from the lies. Searching through his belongings for clues she discovers a strange tree. A tree that feeds off whispered lies and bears fruit that reveals hidden secrets.

But as Faith’s untruths spiral out of control, she discovers that where lies seduce, truths shatter…………………………….

EGS Primary School Ambassadors Visit St Andrews Primary School

7th December 2022Mrs S Field
Our new Primary School Ambassadors, five students from year 7 (Fenton, Ben, Elias, Ryan and Albie), and Ms Montfort went to St Andrews Primary School yesterday to introduce year 5 pupils to life at secondary school, and more specifically, life at EGS.
Through a range of different activities, such as a treasure hunt, St Andrews’ pupils learned about our different houses and what their names stand for as well as how to read a timetable and move from one class to the next.
We hope Year 5 enjoyed this afternoon as much as our students and Ms Montfort did!
Thank you very much to St Andrews for welcoming us!

EGS Regional Finalist at FutureChef 2023 Competition

6th December 2022Mrs S Field
Having taken part in a GCSE Food competition at school, two of our Year 10 students, Roman Coutts and Joe Dengel, recently attended the Local Heat of a national cooking competition; Future Chef 2023.
Springboard (https://springboard.uk.net/) is a charity that encourages young people into the hospitality and catering industry through events such as the FutureChef cooking competition.
The competition was held at Waltham Forest College and the brief was to make a main course dish for two people, within an hour and with a budget of £5.
Roman was announced as one of the two winners, with his salmon and spicy pilaf dish earning him a place at the Regional Finals in February.
Both students cooked exceptionally well and in a pressurised environment.
Well done boys and congratulations to Roman.

⚽ 5 Games. 5 Finals. 5 Wins. 5 Borough Cups!🏆
🔥 EGS on fire!

Our Y10 football team made it four Borough Cup wins for the school last week with an incredible come‑from‑behind 4–1 victory!
And they didn’t have long to wait for company…
Yesterday, our Y7s delivered a brilliant performance of their own, winning their cup final 4–2!

That means 5 out of 5 Borough Cups this year — a clean sweep!

Huge congratulations to all the boys who represented the school so brilliantly, and a massive thank‑you to our Sports Department for their hard work and support – definitely a reflection of our school motto: As Much As I Can’!
