A-Level Results 2023

17th August 2023Mrs S Field

A-Level Results Day Press Release 2023

Enfield Grammar School A-Level students enjoyed another year of good results in their sixth form programmes. This year has seen grade boundaries return to 2019 levels (without any COVID adjustment).
We are incredibly proud of the achievements of all our students including the 5 students who achieved straight A*-A grades to those for whom lower grades represent a significant personal success. This is despite all the uncertainty over the last few years.

We continually strive to ensure each boy is able to give ‘As much as he can’ no matter what his starting point when he joins us; this mantra has served our students well. We wish all our students well as they strive forward in this ever-changing world and ask them to stay in touch to help those who follow them in the coming years.

We are pleased that our students have gained places at top universities and on higher apprenticeship schemes. All students have the option to enter their preferred route of career or further study. This ranges from University, to Apprenticeships, to scholarships and the ‘World of work’.

Mr Lamb, Headteacher Enfield Grammar School commented:
“I have enjoyed working with our Year 13 students and seeing so many of them excel during their time at Enfield Grammar School; we have had the pleasure of seeing them develop from Boys to Men. I would like to thank all the staff for their commitment in supporting students and their families. It is great to see so many of our young men securing fantastic opportunities next year, not just at universities, but also with employers to follow degree apprenticeship programmes. We congratulate them and wish them every success as they move on. I look forward to seeing many of the class of 2023 at Old Boys’ events in the future”

End of Term: Summer Break begins…!

27th July 2023Mrs S Field

There were so many activities going on during the run up to the end of term; department trips, tours, music concerts and activity days, finishing with our annual staff BBQ, where staff get the chance to relax and socialise, are thanked for their hard work and dedication throughout the year and,  also to say goodbye to colleagues who are moving on.

We would like to wish all our students (including our prospective ones!), their families, our staff, LYDS Community Patrol, supporters and local community, a happy and healthy summer break.

So, until the results days in August…. ‘goodbye and stay safe’.

Here is a video snippet of some events that we didn’t get around to posting about just before the end of term….

https://cdn.realsmart.co.uk/ac0a4ac2fc14b45086e9c5af7511da39/uploads/2023/07/27125618/End-of-term-summary-of-events-2023-1.mp4
  • Year 7 Activity Day
  • Year 8 Activity Day
  • Year 8 & 9 Maths & Computer Science Trip to Legoland
  • Year 10 Trip to Thorpe Park – 58 year 10 pupils were rewarded for their excellent behaviour and work throughout the year with a trip to Thorpe Park. The day went superbly and all the boys and teachers enjoyed themselves and the glorious sunny weather.
  • Year 7 Choir perform for local residents – Our fabulous choir, EGS Voices, joined local choir “Adorned” at Ponders End Methodist Church for a performance for local residents. Our fabulous singing teacher Paula Thompson led the choir and they all sang brilliantly! We had lots of comments from the audience about how fantastic they were and looked forward to the next performance.
  • Year 7 perform at St Andrews – The Year 7 boys put on a fantastic show for the year 5 and 6 students at St.Andrews Primary School. They performed a couple of songs and then showed off the various instruments and answered questions about life in year 7. Mr Kendrick then spoke about the Sports scholarship and how students can apply and excel at Enfield Grammar. All of the young students were fully engaged, asking questions and thoroughly enjoying the boys performance

Pre-Loved Uniform Sale A Success

20th July 2023Mrs S Field

Just a quick update on the FEGS pre-loved uniform ‘sale’ last week which was a big success.

Although all the pre-loved uniform was free for parents to take (we understand the cost of living is high and like to support where we can), we still received donations, which were greatly appreciated. The donations go straight back into the school to benefit our students. Thank you 😊

Many parents commented on how their children grow out of clothing so quickly, so, if you have any pre-loved EGS uniform that you don’t need (including PE kits and coats), please drop it all off at one of our school offices and we will offer it out to parents at the next sale we hold. 👖👔🧥

Thank you to Mrs Watson and Mrs Michael-Waller who ran the sale; both have given countless years of support to the school and continue to do so 💚

Summer Reading!

#StudentSpotlight : Emre Nalbantoglu Y11….. “Accepted into the Brit School!” 🎬

19th July 2023Mrs S Field
A huge congratulations to Emre Nalbantoglu who has been accepted into The Brit School starting in September 2023!
This is a huge deal for him and for our school as the Brit School has an incredible reputation with people such as Adele, Amy Winehouse, and the Feeling in their alumni. Students have to go through a rigorous audition process to get in and we are so proud that Emre has made the cut!
Emre Nalbantoglu has been a shining light in the Enfield Grammar School Music department since he arrived in year 7. He has performed on three European tours (would have been more if not for Covid) and at over a dozen concerts within and outside of school. He was a Battle of the Band winner in 2020 and 2023. He is a fantastic singer and pianist but is also accomplished on the bass, drums and guitar. He is a true talent and will be missed when he leaves this summer having just completed his GCSE exams. He is on track to do brilliantly in his exams.
We really want to celebrate his success and wish him all the best in his future, and also acknowledge the contribution that our school’s music department has had in helping him get to where he is today…. this doesn’t happen every day!
😀🎤🎼🎹🎸🥁
Quote from Emre:
As to my “music” life, I’ve been lucky enough to have many great role models throughout my years at EGS such as Joel Waters, (band instructor), Arran Ness, (my previous music teacher), Malcolm Escott and Simon Tate-Lovery. I owe a lot of my love of music to them, as they’ve been the ones to stick with me and my music since 2018.

My time at EGS has given me experience that will stick with me forever as I’ve been able to perform, write and, as cliché as it is, just freely be myself.

I will miss music at EGS but I’ll definitely be back for future concerts. I honestly don’t know where I specifically see myself in 5, 10 or 15 years but the one thing I know for sure is that I’ll be doing “music”. (another cliché statement but we’ll go with it) 😀

Big Bang Science Fair 2023

18th July 2023Mrs S Field

Our Year 8 scientists went to the 2023 Big Bang Science Fair at the NEC in Birmingham; an exciting journey through STEM.

The fair encouraged inquiry-based learning and stimulated interest in science, technology, engineering and maths.

The boys enjoyed a day full of hands-on activities and experiments, careers panels and incredible shows that left them on the edge of their seats; such as Formula 1 simulations, stick insects, making music with plants, modelling the effect of radiation using Nerf guns and lots of other new tech and innovations.

Students were also able to link activities to career opportunities which gave them an insight into their options for the future.

A full day of activity and information that was great fun, interesting and inspiring.

Gardening Club Gets Cooking 🥣🥄🍳

17th July 2023Mrs S Field

Last week, our gardening club students were lucky to be able to receive a ‘Know Your Onions’ cooking session delivered by the charity, School Food Matters.

These sessions always inspire the boys, especially those who do not normally love to eat vegetables (!), to always taste what they cook. They have the opportunity to add different flavours and spices, or to go and pick some herbs that they have been growing from our school garden.

This year they made Cauliflower Fritters with a ‘caulislaw’ (salad using the stem and leaves) and a raita. There were varying levels of success with managing to make fritters that held together nicely, but that was all part of learning!

Overall, the recipe got the thumbs up and some are going to try it at home using different vegetables.

Ethan Bousoula: Jack Petchey Speak-Out Winner 2023!!!!!!

11th July 2023Mrs S Field

There was never any doubt from any of us here at EGS!

In central London last night, the national final of the Jack Petchey Speak-Out competition was held. An amazing evening listening to ALL the wonderful finalists delivering their amazing speeches; thought-provoking, humorous, empathetic….all emotions, and they were all great speeches. BUT, one stood out and all we can say is ‘Ethan, you were absolutely amazing and you absolutely deserved to be the winner!’

Thank you to all the staff who went along last night in support and especially to Ms Ireland who has led on this initiative, mentoring and supporting Ethan from the beginning.

Ethan…. you rock!

⚽ 5 Games. 5 Finals. 5 Wins. 5 Borough Cups!🏆
🔥 EGS on fire!

Our Y10 football team made it four Borough Cup wins for the school last week with an incredible come‑from‑behind 4–1 victory!
And they didn’t have long to wait for company…
Yesterday, our Y7s delivered a brilliant performance of their own, winning their cup final 4–2!

That means 5 out of 5 Borough Cups this year — a clean sweep!

Huge congratulations to all the boys who represented the school so brilliantly, and a massive thank‑you to our Sports Department for their hard work and support – definitely a reflection of our school motto: As Much As I Can’!
