EGS Y11 Basketball Team = U16’s BOROUGH LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!!

**EGS Y11s win their league!!
Yesterday, our EGS Y11 Basketball team completed their borough league competition. The boys played against Lea Valley High School winning 73-19. This closed their season with a 100% record and being confirmed as U16’s BOROUGH LEAGUE CHAMPIONS retaining the title previously won in 2020. 🏀🏆
The team has worked incredibly hard this season, after having spent last year with no Basketball competitions to compete in. This hard work and dedication led to some very impressive results:
 
EGS 20 v Highlands 0 (Bye)
EGS 75 v Edmonton County 58
EGS 57 v Broomfield 37
EGS 59 v Chace 31
EGS 73 V LVHS 19
 
We hope these boys will remain largely together going into the 6th form next year, and therefore be able to build on their success further.

DofE & Apprenticeships – Post 16 Opportunities

On National Apprenticeship Week, we thought we would share this blog from the Duke of Edinburgh Award, a programme that we have started to run in school with our Year 10s.
Apart from the challenge, the teamwork, the sense of achievement and all the fun that it delivers to our students, it definitely goes a long way to help in the future with applying to Post 16 courses, apprenticeships and jobs.

Safer Internet Day 2022

We are joining in with support for Safer Internet Day today, however, we are always educating our students about online safety.

Online safety is a daily concern for everyone in and out of school and we all have a part to play in protecting ourselves and each other.

Next half term, in addition to staying safe online, our pastoral team will be focusing on gambling awareness.

KS3 Music Concert Cancelled :-(

It is with great regret that the Key Stage 3 Concert due to take place on 25th February has been cancelled.

The Concert takes place to showcase the talents of Years 7 – 9 and especially to give all the Year 7 students the opportunity to sing together in a mass choir.  Because of the Covid restrictions in place until very recently, it has not been possible to run singing rehearsals in our Year 7 classes and so preparation for this Concert could not take place.  We are very sorry for the disappointment this will cause both our students and you.

However, the Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 bands will have an opportunity to perform in the Battle of the Bands which is fixed for Friday 25th March.  Any students who were hoping to perform solos or duets in the Key Stage 3 Concert should come and see me with a view to performing in either the Jazz and Acoustic Evening or at the Summer Music Soiree.

If any Year 7 student would like to sing in school, they are most welcome to join our Choir which rehearses every Wednesday lunchtime in Room C1 under Miss Paula Thompson.  Individual singing lessons with Miss Thompson are also available (£145 per term).

Once again, my apologies for the cancellation of this event.  We are very much hoping that this will be the last event we will have to cancel because of Covid restrictions.

National Apprenticeship Week is an annual, week-long celebration that brings businesses and apprentices across the country together to celebrate the positive impact that  apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider community.

FANTASY WINGS

Fantasy Wings will be funding the cost of training and Private Pilots Licenses for 3 Young People on their 22/23 programme. 

50 additional students of their 22/23 programme will receive a trial flying lesson fully funded by Fantasy Wings. 

Young people must be between the ages of 13 and 25 and be  Black, Asian or  a Minority Ethnic group to apply.

EGS Seniors Crowned Borough League Champions!!

Congratulations to the the Senior Basketball team, who, on Monday played their final Borough league fixture against Latymer. The fixture was a true winner takes all event, as the eventual winners would be crowned borough league champions.
After a hard fought match the team finished winning 62-43 🙂
 
This completed a 100% record for this season after winning against Edmonton County and St Ignatius previously.
 
Well done to all those involved from an incredibly proud Mr Smith!
