Summertime on the Lawn ☀️

8th July 2023Mrs S Field

Summertime at school.

We’ve had some warm and sunny days recently and, for school staff, it’s lovely to sit back and watch the students playing on the lawn in our beautiful lower school grounds.

Thank you Mrs Chrysanthou for sharing the photos 🙂

Y12 Psychology & Philosophy students visit the Freud museum

6th July 2023Mrs S Field
“Out of your vulnerabilities will come your strength.” Freud 1919.
Our year 12 Psychology and Philosophy students visited the Freud museum this week.
Here, we were all able to see Freud’s last home where he and his daughter Anna Freud practiced psychoanalysis. We also saw all the artefacts Freud had a collected from the early 1900s including his famous chair.

Year 12 Science Students Visit UCL

3rd July 2023Mrs S Field
Recently, some Year 12 A-level science students were privileged to visit University College London, one of the world’s leading multidisciplinary universities who provide a huge range of high ranked Science courses.
During their visit, these students were fortunate enough to experience a day in the life of a student at UCL experiencing various sessions such as;
  • A lecture based on the introduction into Neuroscience by a leading Professor in this faculty who is also part of the admissions team
  • An insight into the lab where the scientists do research on fruit flies with new findings including treatment of some of the worlds biggest diseases and disorders
  • The opportunity to extract DNA with one of the highly skilled molecular biology and gene therapy pHD professors inside one of the UCL laboratories
These visits and drop-ins to lessons provide our students with a real taste of the next steps they could be taking in their further education journey, igniting their passion for their future and showing them how it can become achievable.
Thank you for being so welcoming UCL!

#StudentSpotlight: Shakithyan performs at the Dugdale Centre

1st July 2023Mrs S Field

On Wednesday night, our very own Shakithyan performed at the Dugdale Centre as part of Enfield Music Service’s solo Vocal Recital.

He did brilliantly, singing Save Your Tears by the Weeknd.

Shakithyan is the first student to represent EGS at these yearly events and we hope he is first of many!

28th June 2023Mrs S Field

A massive well done to all who took part in our final Interhouse of the year where our students had the chance to show off their athletics skills at Lee Valley Athletics track on Friday.

Cheered on by their teachers and classmates, there were some exceptional performances on both the track and in the field.

The students represented their house and the school amazingly well!!

“What A Scorcher It Was” ☀️😎☀️- Y10 DofE Practice Expedition….Done!

26th June 2023Mrs S Field

A massive shout out to our Year 10 DofE boys who were all formidable this weekend. Following on from Sports Day on Friday, these boys came out fully loaded to learn all the necessary skills required to complete their Bronze expedition this coming weekend.

Hiking about 12 km from Lower School, learning navigation skills along the way, they arrived at our overnight site in Cuffley where (once rehydrated), they learnt to set up camp, cook on outdoors camping stoves and plan their routes for next week.

We can truly say that these boys did Enfield Grammar School proud with their dedication, motivation and behaviour throughout the weekend, especially in such challenging high temperatures.

We hope you feel proud of yourselves for this achievement and that you enjoyed the experience.

Thank you to the staff who gave up their own time to teach the skills and support the boys.

Now…..(without staff guidance, and hiking to a different site) you’ve just got to do it all over again this coming weekend!! 😃😜

Well done boys!!

Enfield Grammar School mentioned at Glastonbury!!

26th June 2023Mrs S Field

Two of our ‘old boys’ were performing at Glastonbury this weekend and we even got a shout out when Femi spoke on the importance of offering a music pathway to our youth.

Femi and TJ Koleoso from Ezra Collective were fully dedicated members of the music department, playing in several bands and at all of our concerts and even winning the Battle of the Bands three years in a row!

Both play with Ezra Collective, a jazz fusion band, and Femi also drums with Gorillaz.

They played an amazing set at Glastonbury and really worked the crowd – it’s an awesome watch. Click here to watch their set: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0ft6scc/glastonbury-ezra-collective

They have come a long way……. from Room C12 in the music block to Glastonbury!
