EGS Alumni Football Club!

28th March 2025Mrs S Field

EGS Old Boys Football Club (EGS OB FC) is the official alumni football club for Enfield Grammar School, made up of former students from the age of 16 years, and growing every year. We play competitive football in the AFA League with four adult Saturday teams and a Vets side – all currently in the top four of their leagues.

This season’s been a big one:

  • 1st XI reached two cup finals and a semi-final. Watch this space!
  • 2s are in a final and made a quarter-final.
  • 3s, 4s, and Vets all made semi-finals.

We pride ourselves on the quality of football and the strong community vibe. Our close link with Enfield Town FC helps us stay connected to the local football scene, and we’re always looking to bring through fresh talent from EGS.

We also film our games using VEO, with highlights published on Instagram. One of our goals this season went viral, racking up 2.7 million views, 55k likes, and even getting featured on Dutch Match of the Day – where Marco van Basten and other World Cup legends had their say!

Watch it here:

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DGKn43IthDl/?igsh=MWgxOTNlYWhyYjBnZg==

If you’re a current or recent student who wants to keep playing at a high level, build lasting connections, and maybe even make your name online – reach out and get involved.

Ex-Student Elisha Sowunmi, West Ham United & Skechers!

21st March 2025Mrs S Field

Huge congratulations to, Alumni, Elisha Sowunmi who has recently signed a pro contract with West Ham and has gained Skechers as a sponsor!

Both the football club and sponsor asked Elisha if he wanted to give something back to the  community that helped him. And guess what?…. Yes…Elisha chose EGS!

Another immensely proud moment for us to welcome Elisha back to school for an extremely exciting session with our Y10 and 11 football teams. Elisha answered lots of questions that the boys had about being a pro footballer and they really enjoyed having him talk to them.

The visit  ended with an amazing donation of a free pair of Sketchers football boots to EVERY boy in the Year 10 and 11 football teams. You could feel the buzz and amazement in the hall. An incredibly generous gesture from Elisha, Skechers and West Ham, so thank you to you all.
We’re very proud of Elisha and wish him all the best in his future career.

Starlight Express!

18th March 2025Mrs S Field
We took 10 of our fantastic EGS Music Scholars to see Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic Starlight Express in Wembley last night. What a fantastic show! The boys had a brilliant time and were mesmerised by the spectacle of the show and very impressed by the music (and the roller skating of course!).

EGGScellent News!

16th March 2025Mrs S Field

With all our WOW Day trips and experience events happening later this week we would like to reach out to you all and ask if you would be happy to donate an Easter Egg..?

After the successful and hugely appreciated outreach community project that Mr Thompson, Head of Citizenship, led for the December WOW charity day, he has decided that, on Thursday, our students will go into Enfield Town to spread a little cheer, add a smile and say thank you to anyone in our community….just to be kind.

If you can spare a small/cheap easter egg that could be put forward for this charitable enterprise, please send it into school with your son to hand in to the office for the attention of Mr Thompson.

Thank you in advance for any donations we receive in.

Who will be our lucky recipients on Thursday??!

On Thursday 13 March, pupils will have the opportunity to discuss their ideas and progress with a start-up company in preparation for the Dragon’s Den showdown in the summer term.

Here are the two ‘companies’ we’d like to introduce to you;

and

…find your flow…..Fidget Fusion.                                                                                          The Fidget Fusion entrepreneurs are Henry, Dhruv and Jaden.

Visit to Abbey Road Institute

11th March 2025Mrs S Field

“Where The Music Magic Happens”……Yesterday saw the sixth form music tech boys and some GCSE music students head to the Abbey Road Institute, at Angel studios, Islington. This iconic studio was host to Adele’s 21, Rush’s Power Windows, as well as albums by Courtney Pine, Sam Smith, Robbie Williams and Fela Kuti. At this site, students can take an intensive one year course in music production.

The boys were thrilled to look around the live rooms and production suites and taste the musical history of quite a magical place.

Back in March, Year 7 students participated in the @write2speakuk initiative and the impact was truly inspiring. The sessions provided a platform for students to explore their voices, express themselves with confidence, and engage in meaningful discussions—all guided by outstanding facilitators.

The expertise and enthusiasm of the facilitators were central to the programme’s success. Their ability to connect with students, encourage participation, and nurture creativity ensured that even the most reserved students felt empowered to share their thoughts.

The emotional impact of the initiative was clear. Students not only developed their writing and speaking skills but also grew in confidence. Many took pride in their work, stepping outside their comfort zones to express themselves in ways they hadn’t before. The energy in the room was electric as ideas took shape and came to life.

Write2Speak has left a lasting impression, equipping students with valuable skills that extend beyond the classroom. It was an enriching, transformative experience—one that will continue to resonate with them in the future.

The Art Department took their Year 11 GCSE students to visit the Tate Modern, London and walk along the Southbank.

The trip gave students the opportunity to experience the Turbine Hall and view artwork in this vast industrial setting. World famous art by artists such as Picasso, Leger, Braque, Matisse was exhibited alongside new contemporary artworks Outi Pieski, Arahmaiani and Farah Al Qasimi.

From Waterloo station, we ambled along the Southbank, taking photographs of the architecture and landmarks. The skyline showcasing the London Eye, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge, the Shard and Cutty Sark at Greenwich. On the walk back to Liverpool Street station, we visited the bombed out ruins of the Church of St. Dunstan in the East. We stopped for a moment to appreciate the glory of nature entwined around the gothic archways, walls and windows of the historic church.

The day was full of wonder. Imagination and thought provoking questions were raised. The Tate Modern and the buzz of the Southbank providing plentiful inspiration for the students Art GCSE Externally Set Assignment.

We look forward to seeing the students using the inspiration of the trip to develop their ideas and create new, exciting and innovative artwork.

The journey to the Enfield Regional Finals of the @jackpetcheyfoundation and @speakers.trust `Speak-Out Challenge` started with an intense, full-day workshop at Enfield Grammar School.

30 students participated, working hard to refine their public speaking skills. The workshop was packed with engaging sessions, expert coaching, and helpful feedback that prepared everyone to perform their best.

The students then moved on to the Assembly Finals, where six outstanding speakers were selected to represent the school. The finalists included:
Alex Aning-Bonsu, Aiden Goldring, Nikodem Kotwica, Daniel Obisesan, Burhan Mehdi and Michael Svoboda
These six students each delivered powerful and thought-provoking speeches, impressing both their peers and teachers with their confidence and eloquence.

Michael Svoboda had the honour of being the first speaker at the Enfield Regional Finals, held at @officialstignatiuscollege in February 2025. Opening a regional event like this is always a challenge, but Michael handled it with poise and confidence. His speech, "Our Dreams are Waiting" was delivered with passion and clarity, leaving a lasting impression on everyone in the room.

Michael`s parents, sibling, and teachers were present to cheer him on, and they couldn’t have been prouder of his performance. His hard work and dedication were evident, and they watched with immense pride as he stepped onto the regional stage.

While Michael didn’t make it to the top spot, his participation in this prestigious event was a huge accomplishment. He represented Enfield Grammar School with pride and his performance was definitely a standout moment of the evening, a clear demonstration of his hard work and passion, marking the beginning of his journey as a public speaker.
