Ezra Collective Wins The Mercury Prize!!….& another mention for EGS :-)

8th September 2023Mrs S Field

Following on from their incredible performance at Glastonbury which hit our local news, Ezra Collective won The Mercury Prize last night.

This is such fabulous news and we are delighted for our ‘Old Boys’ and their band mates.

At the awards ceremony, Femi’s speech thanked people and organisations that gave support during their musical journey, and again, we are so proud to get a mention and know how our passionate music department was one of the various platforms that helped springboard these ex-students to where they are now. He emphasises how important all our local youth groups and services are in the UK, believing in and giving young people a chance.

Mr Escott, who is still teaching within our music department, was one of their music teachers when they were here in school and he recently got the chance to meet up with Ezra Collective where they reminisced about rehearsals in room C12 at Lower School, EGS music tours and concerts in our main hall; Mr Escott is pleased to say the boys still have very fond memories of their days at Grammar.

These brothers, Femi & TJ and their band mates are a shining example of what dedication and hard work can achieve, from the Year 7 Band to Mercury music prize-winners !

(YouTube clip 2.5 minutes long – a super delighted Ezra Collective moment and a lovely tribute to youth services inc an EGS mention at 1.35)

Ezra Collective is composed of drummer and bandleader Femi Koleoso, bassist TJ Koleoso, keyboardist Joe Armon-Jones, trumpeter Ife Ogunjobi, and tenor saxophonist James Mollison.

The group took the top prize over nominated artists including Fred Again, Arctic Monkeys and Raye!

GCSE Results 2023

25th August 2023Mrs S Field
Enfield Grammar School would like to congratulate all our GCSE students on some outstanding personal successes, including impressive grades and excellent progress.
We are incredibly proud of the commitment, resilience and hard work demonstrated by our students in the face of the disruption they have experienced in recent years. They have truly embodied our school motto of “Tant Que Je Puis” (“As much as I can”).

We are pleased to have begun enrolling our own students and welcoming students from other schools to join our Sixth Form as it enters an exciting new chapter; accepting female students for the first time.

We remain open to applications on a first-come-first served basis so please explore our website for details of our courses and how to apply.

Mr Lamb, Headteacher at Enfield Grammar School, commented:

“It has been such a pleasure to see our students flourish over the last five years and I was delighted to congratulate them today on some superb outcomes. We are incredibly proud to have witnessed their journeys from boys, to the fine young men they have become. We look forward to witnessing their continued academic and personal successes whether with us or in pastures new. We have really valued the partnership and support of the parents of our students and we thank our teachers and support staff for their ongoing commitment to the boys’ achievements.”

Making History – The First Female to Enrol With Us!

24th August 2023Mrs S Field

We would like to welcome, Katie, our first female sixth former to enrol with us this year.

Having changed our admissions criteria for entrance into our sixth form from this academic year, it is with immense pleasure, we can now welcome in girls, and, hence create another history milestone for the school; since 1558 Enfield Grammar School has been a boys only school……until now!

If you are a girl who is still undecided about which sixth form place to take, then why not join Katie in making history, and contact us.

A-Level Results 2023

17th August 2023Mrs S Field

A-Level Results Day Press Release 2023

Enfield Grammar School A-Level students enjoyed another year of good results in their sixth form programmes. This year has seen grade boundaries return to 2019 levels (without any COVID adjustment).
We are incredibly proud of the achievements of all our students including the 5 students who achieved straight A*-A grades to those for whom lower grades represent a significant personal success. This is despite all the uncertainty over the last few years.

We continually strive to ensure each boy is able to give ‘As much as he can’ no matter what his starting point when he joins us; this mantra has served our students well. We wish all our students well as they strive forward in this ever-changing world and ask them to stay in touch to help those who follow them in the coming years.

We are pleased that our students have gained places at top universities and on higher apprenticeship schemes. All students have the option to enter their preferred route of career or further study. This ranges from University, to Apprenticeships, to scholarships and the ‘World of work’.

Mr Lamb, Headteacher Enfield Grammar School commented:
“I have enjoyed working with our Year 13 students and seeing so many of them excel during their time at Enfield Grammar School; we have had the pleasure of seeing them develop from Boys to Men. I would like to thank all the staff for their commitment in supporting students and their families. It is great to see so many of our young men securing fantastic opportunities next year, not just at universities, but also with employers to follow degree apprenticeship programmes. We congratulate them and wish them every success as they move on. I look forward to seeing many of the class of 2023 at Old Boys’ events in the future”

End of Term: Summer Break begins…!

27th July 2023Mrs S Field

There were so many activities going on during the run up to the end of term; department trips, tours, music concerts and activity days, finishing with our annual staff BBQ, where staff get the chance to relax and socialise, are thanked for their hard work and dedication throughout the year and,  also to say goodbye to colleagues who are moving on.

We would like to wish all our students (including our prospective ones!), their families, our staff, LYDS Community Patrol, supporters and local community, a happy and healthy summer break.

So, until the results days in August…. ‘goodbye and stay safe’.

Here is a video snippet of some events that we didn’t get around to posting about just before the end of term….

  • Year 7 Activity Day
  • Year 8 Activity Day
  • Year 8 & 9 Maths & Computer Science Trip to Legoland
  • Year 10 Trip to Thorpe Park – 58 year 10 pupils were rewarded for their excellent behaviour and work throughout the year with a trip to Thorpe Park. The day went superbly and all the boys and teachers enjoyed themselves and the glorious sunny weather.
  • Year 7 Choir perform for local residents – Our fabulous choir, EGS Voices, joined local choir “Adorned” at Ponders End Methodist Church for a performance for local residents. Our fabulous singing teacher Paula Thompson led the choir and they all sang brilliantly! We had lots of comments from the audience about how fantastic they were and looked forward to the next performance.
  • Year 7 perform at St Andrews – The Year 7 boys put on a fantastic show for the year 5 and 6 students at St.Andrews Primary School. They performed a couple of songs and then showed off the various instruments and answered questions about life in year 7. Mr Kendrick then spoke about the Sports scholarship and how students can apply and excel at Enfield Grammar. All of the young students were fully engaged, asking questions and thoroughly enjoying the boys performance

Pre-Loved Uniform Sale A Success

20th July 2023Mrs S Field

Just a quick update on the FEGS pre-loved uniform ‘sale’ last week which was a big success.

Although all the pre-loved uniform was free for parents to take (we understand the cost of living is high and like to support where we can), we still received donations, which were greatly appreciated. The donations go straight back into the school to benefit our students. Thank you 😊

Many parents commented on how their children grow out of clothing so quickly, so, if you have any pre-loved EGS uniform that you don’t need (including PE kits and coats), please drop it all off at one of our school offices and we will offer it out to parents at the next sale we hold. 👖👔🧥

Thank you to Mrs Watson and Mrs Michael-Waller who ran the sale; both have given countless years of support to the school and continue to do so 💚

There has been some fantastic work happening across the Art Department over the past year. Here are a few highlights:

🦸 Year 7 designed superhero self-portraits and created stunning landscapes inspired by illustrator, painter and photographer Ashes57.

🖼️ Year 8 explored Cubism, taking inspiration from Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and Juan Gris. They also created personalised clay totem poles reflecting their identity through animals, heritage, hobbies, sport, music and EGS colours, before producing vibrant mixed-media cubist artwork using recycled tin cans, coloured pens, pencils and watercolours.

🌍 Year 9 created expressive self-portraits inspired by Caribbean multidisciplinary artist Yermine Richardson, celebrating the vibrancy of Caribbean and African cultures. They also investigated Op Art, producing eye-catching work influenced by pioneering artist Bridget Riley.

Also, a huge thank you to our talented Art students who supported our Year 4 & 5 Open Afternoon, where visitors enjoyed creating raised salt paintings using glue, salt and watercolours.

We`re so proud of the imagination, creativity and skill our students have shown this term. Well done to everyone involved! 👏🎨✨

To celebrate the end of their time at Enfield Grammar School, our Year 13 students enjoyed a fantastic weekend in Paris. 🇫🇷

Highlights included a boat tour along the River Seine, shopping at Westfield Les 4 Temps, exploring the vibrant 10th arrondissement, and a fun-filled day at Disneyland Paris.

The trip was a great way to celebrate the end of their school journey and create lasting memories with friends.

A huge thank you to Ms Johnson and Mr Armstrong for giving up their weekend to make this memorable experience possible.

We wish our Year 13 students every success for the future as they embark on their next chapter. We look forward to welcoming them back on Results Day and celebrating their achievements. Good luck, Class of 2026! 🎓

We wish our Year 13 students every success for the future as they embark on their next chapter. We look forward to welcoming them back on Results Day and celebrating their achievements. Good luck, Class of 2026! 🎓

Our wonderful PTA `FEGS` will be holding a second-hand uniform sale at the upper school next week. If you`d like to pick up some school uniform at a fraction of the cost, then make sure you come along......
