Enfield Grammar School mentioned at Glastonbury!!

26th June 2023Mrs S Field

Two of our ‘old boys’ were performing at Glastonbury this weekend and we even got a shout out when Femi spoke on the importance of offering a music pathway to our youth.

Femi and TJ Koleoso from Ezra Collective were fully dedicated members of the music department, playing in several bands and at all of our concerts and even winning the Battle of the Bands three years in a row!

Both play with Ezra Collective, a jazz fusion band, and Femi also drums with Gorillaz.

They played an amazing set at Glastonbury and really worked the crowd – it’s an awesome watch. Click here to watch their set: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0ft6scc/glastonbury-ezra-collective

They have come a long way……. from Room C12 in the music block to Glastonbury!

Windrush Day 2023

21st June 2023Mrs S Field

Today marks the 75th anniversary of Windrush Day, the day of the arrival of MV Empire Windrush at the port of Tilbury , near London, on 22nd June 1948. Those who arrived on the Empire Windrush, their descendants and those who followed them, have made and continue to make an enormous contribution to Britain.

The day honours the British Caribbean community, and the half a million people who travelled to the UK after the Second World War. The first Windrush Day was held on June 22 2018. There are various events being held, videos to watch and articles to read in education AND support of the Windrush Generation, and to show sympathy with and understanding of the hardships they have endured.

#StudentSpotlight : Malakai Morgan Year 9

16th June 2023Mrs S Field

Over the last bank holiday weekend, Malakai took part in the AP International Swimming Gala at the Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.

Malakai swam alongside international Olympic swimmers, and in doing so, made it to 2 finals, 100fly Junior Final (U19s) where he came 2nd, and the Senior B Finals for the 50fly.

During the weekend, he met and discussed his race with both Adam Peaty OBE (Triple Olympic Champion), and his coach Mel Marshall MBE (former British swimmer winning numerous medals). I don’t think you can get better feedback and support than that?!

Sounds like Malakai had an brilliant weekend of swimming and we wish him continued success – well done!

Year 11 End of Year / Leavers

14th June 2023Mrs S Field

Just before the half-term, we had the Year 11 Leavers celebration, starting with a dedicated Leavers Assembly filled with memories and positive notes for the future. Every year, at this time, It is both a sad and a happy time for the school; to be saying goodbye to pupils who we have watched grow from boys to young men, but delighted with letting them go on to travel their next steps, knowing we have helped to prepare them for this time in their lives.

We then had a lovely couple of hours after the assembly, with refreshments, boys playing their last ever game of football in the playground and the treat of having the Slow Dough Pizza company on site to freshly make pizzas for lunch. The atmosphere was great, and a big thank you to the Year 11 team for the support given on the day and throughout the year.

Lastly, just to wish all our boys the very best in their GCSE exams that they are in the middle of.

Over two days, they took part in a wide range of activities (PE, geography, first aid, music, French and creative writing) designed by teachers to give them a true insight into life at secondary school and especially at EGS.
Thank you Year 5 for coming and thank you to our amazing teachers for putting these activities together!
