Year 10 Visit to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

21st July 2021Mrs S Field
Last week, Mr Pieri and Mr Wragg took Year 10 pupils to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The boys, who have been following the Premier League Inspires programme, were invited by the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation to a ‘Collapsed Curriculum Day’. The boys took part in two workshops; one from HSBC Finance which was delivered by an ‘Old Boy’ of the school, and another by the Street Doctors. The boys were also treated to a tour of the club’s world-class stadium.
All the boys were fantastic as they fully immersed themselves in the activities by getting involved and asking pertinent, relevant questions. Well done to all and thank you to THFC Foundation, HSBC and Street Doctors.

Our Year 10s Chosen for the Premier League Inspires Challenge

17th July 2021Mrs S Field

In a recent project, a group of our Year 10s, mentored by Mr Pieri, won the right to represent the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation for the Premier League Inspires Challenge.

Their Social Action Project was to put on an event for the local elderly to help them overcome difficulties they have endured over the past 15 months. However after a thorough Risk Assessment (which formed part of the boys’ action plan) the event turned into a ‘Thank You’ afternoon for school staff to show gratitude for all they have done since last March to support students.

This project has afforded these boys the opportunity to experience positive consequences from their positive work and was celebrated last Friday with tea and cakes!

Well done Gianni, Jahmar, Darius, Hashim and Matthew.

Thank you to Myri from Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, for all his work with the boys. Thank you to Lisa Piggott from the Premier League and to the Tottenham Hotspur football scholars, one of whom is an ex-grammar boy, Romaine Mundle.

And, of course, thank you to Mr Pieri who doesn’t like to miss out on a photo opportunity!

Year 10 The Safety Box ‘Peace’ Day

16th July 2021Mrs S Field

The Home Office, in partnership with the Metropolitan Police, offered our school a free programme with the award winning safeguarding organisation, The Safety Box Youth Programmes CIC, to deliver a personal development and safeguarding programme to our Year 10 students.

The Safety Box  are accredited through AQA and specialise in helping young people and young adults develop important skills such as leadership, communication, team working, presentation, conflict resolution, personal development and problem solving.  As a school, we recognise these extra-curricular activities are some of the essential keys to success and that they are a platform on which to build employability skills and future well-being.

The school has been very lucky to receive this fully funded workshop supported by the London Borough of Enfield to help our pupils succeed and above all keep them safe on the streets.

AWAKENING THE POTENTIAL OF YOUTH & KEEPING THEM SAFE

With almost 15 years of experience, we teach simple in depth, effective tactics to reduce violence and avoid threat, we awaken the potential of young people and above all keep them safe.

https://www.thesafetybox.org/

From The Safety Box:

The Safety Box ® CIC programs are accredited through AQA and are a refined system of training and development in helping young people and young adults develop important skills such as leadership, communication, team working, presentation, high risk conflict resolution, violence reduction, personal development and problem solving. We recognise that these are some of the essential keys to success. They open doors to learning, to life in addition to work. They are a platform on which to build employability skills and the gateway to future well-being and prosperity.

Many of our programs have been developed because there is a growing need to demonstrate to young adults that there are ways to avoid gangs bullying, harassment or more serious, violent situations. Where avoiding threat is not possible, we show how to manage and control dangerous situations.

Black History Workshops – Inventors & Inventions..

16th July 2021Mrs S Field
Did you know that many of everyday life inventions, still used nowadays across the world, were created by Black inventors?

The three-light traffic light, the improved ironing board, refrigerated trucks, automatic elevators doors, the carbon light bulb filament, the sanitary belt revolutionising menstrual pads… Wonderful contributions that made our daily life much easier!

“Every person is born with a creative mind. Everyone has that ability.” – Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner, Black woman inventor
