Year 11 boys, Radhesh, Dom, Luc & Oliver, have successfully completed their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award through their Explorer Scout Group.
After completing their Bronze Award in 2020/21 (where they volunteered in our local Covid Vaccination Centre) they carried straight on and started the Silver challenge.
A few months of Volunteering in the community again, learning and progressing with a skill and committing to weekly physical/sport activities was finished off by taking part in a 3 day 2 night expedition. Carrying a full load in their rucksacks, including overnight kit and cooking equipment to ensure they could be self-sufficient throughout their expedition in the Chilterns, they clocked up to 77km each!
To complete the requirements they then had to create a presentation and deliver it to their Explorer group and parents as well as the DofE Manager and the District Commissioner.
They proved they all had determination, motivation, enthusiasm, loyalty, teamwork skills and great humour (!) to complete this year long challenge.
Having the DofE on your CV when you apply for universities or jobs goes a long way to helping you stand out amongst all other applications received.
Congratulations boys – your award is well deserved!
To our current Year 10 Bronze DofE participants; if you have any questions about the processes, different sections or the expedition, why not ask one of these boys if you see them around school?
This anti-bullying week we are going to make our difference by holding ODD SOCKS DAY on Monday 15th November.
Your EGS Year 8 Anti-Bullying Ambassadors are: Theo, Ben, Usayd, Arda, Jack, Nathan, Malakai, Antonio, Jeremy, and James
