Children’s Mental Health Week 2026: Belonging

12th February 2026Mrs S Field
To mark Children’s Mental Health Week 2026, we will be delivering a special assembly for Years 7 and 8 centred on this year’s theme of Belonging — exploring how we can develop our own sense of belonging and help others feel that they belong too.

The assembly will be followed by form-time activities and the creation of a ‘Belonging Pledge’ display. Every child deserves to feel accepted, welcomed, valued and comfortable in their environment.

#StudentSpotlight: Jamie Tetstill Y9

11th February 2026Mrs S Field
Jamie Tetstill in Year 9 plays hockey after being inspired by his idol, Canadian international Jordan Binnington. Watching him compete sparked a passion that led Jamie to take up the sport himself.

“I am the starting goalie for the Haringey Hounds U14A team, and I also serve as an available backup for both the U16B and U16A squads. I play roller hockey as well, where I’m the starting goalie for the Borehamwood Crusaders U16 and U19 teams. I train across all age groups, from U14 up to men’s.”

Jamie has already represented England at international tournaments in Finland and Germany, and this year he will once again represent England in Switzerland as part of the U16 national team.

We wish Jamie the very best of luck this year in this fast-paced and exciting sport! 🏒

Attainment 8 – What Does It Mean?

6th February 2026Mrs S Field

Progress 8 and Attainment 8 are two key measures used to evaluate a school’s performance.

While traditional metrics such as the percentage of grades 7–9 at GCSE still have value, Progress 8 and Attainment 8 aim to provide a more rounded picture. They encourage schools to focus on improving outcomes for all pupils, not just those aiming for the highest grades.

Attainment 8 measures a student’s average achievement across eight approved subjects at Key Stage 4, including GCSEs or equivalent qualifications, and is used to compare overall school performance. The measure is calculated by totalling points from these subjects, with English and mathematics double-weighted, to indicate the average level of attainment.

Unlike Progress 8, Attainment 8 reflects a school’s overall academic outcomes rather than the progress pupils make from their starting points.

Here is how EGS is doing in the Borough of Enfield:

#AlumniSpotlight: Brando Bailey-Joseph Debuts for Arsenal!

29th January 2026Mrs S Field
We were thrilled to see Brando Bailey-Joseph come off the bench for Arsenal last night—congratulations, Brando! Your teachers have been buzzing about it this morning.
Brando left us in June to continue his football journey, after several years with the Arsenal Youth Academy and representing England at youth level.
After signing a scholarship contract with Arsenal in July 2025, followed by his first professional contract last October, it was fantastic to see him make his Champions League debut last night in Arsenal’s 3–2 victory.
EGS is immensely proud of the many students who have excelled in their sporting education and gone on to become professional footballers—here’s to many more!

⚽ 5 Games. 5 Finals. 5 Wins. 5 Borough Cups!🏆
🔥 EGS on fire!

Our Y10 football team made it four Borough Cup wins for the school last week with an incredible come‑from‑behind 4–1 victory!
And they didn’t have long to wait for company…
Yesterday, our Y7s delivered a brilliant performance of their own, winning their cup final 4–2!

That means 5 out of 5 Borough Cups this year — a clean sweep!

Huge congratulations to all the boys who represented the school so brilliantly, and a massive thank‑you to our Sports Department for their hard work and support – definitely a reflection of our school motto: As Much As I Can’!
