Impressionable Minds on Crime Awareness

9th July 2021Mrs S Field

Yesterday, Year 9 were involved in a ‘Crime Awareness’ Workshop Day run by the award winning provider, ‘Impressionable Minds’.

In these workshops specific issues on crime were be discussed with the aim to raise awareness of topics that are relevant to young people.

In all cases and in all the workshops, appropriate and up to date advice and guidance was given with the central theme of the day to give our boys the awareness and skills to identify and avoid the dangers of criminal and anti-social behaviour.

#FavouriteBookFriday with…… Head of Mathematics, Ms Paraskeva

9th July 2021Mrs S Field
#FavouriteBookFriday: Head of Mathematics, Ms Paraskeva has chosen ‘The Jack Reacher Series (books 1-23) by Lee Child’.

A righteous avenger for our troubled times.
From ‘The Midnight Line’ one favourite reference was the fact that Jack Reacher is referred to as Bigfoot throughout the book.
“And standing in the middle of the room was Bigfoot. No doubt about it. The guy was huge. Not quite seven feet, but close.”

Who will come out on top?

8th July 2021Mrs S Field
Yep, football mania has swept through the staff room!
Teachers watching football, teachers talking football, teachers predicting football.
Enjoying watching EURO 2020?
We’ve also been engaging in a staff prediction quiz (mathematical elements to it!).
With the final on Sunday still to come, who will come out on top?

Ancient Civilisations Explored by Year 10

6th July 2021Mrs S Field
Our Year 10 historians have been involved in Black History Workshops discovering the beauty of black ancient civilizations.
Did you know that there were over 15 different Ancient Black African Civilisations dating back 17, 000 years? The oldest: the Zingh Empire 15000 BCE.
I wonder how many others you can think of?

EGS Boys doing the Duke of Edinburgh Award

5th July 2021Mrs S Field

We are so proud of Dom, Luc and Ed in Year 10 who have been volunteering at a local vaccination centre as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award.

A great example of our boys living the School’s motto Tant Que Je Puis (As Much As I Can).

Watch this space for the roll out of our DofE Bronze programme coming soon!

International Plastic Free Bag Day

3rd July 2021Mrs S Field
It is International Plastic Free Bag Day today!
This is a global initiative that aims to eliminate the use of single-use plastic bags in the world and makes us consider our impact on the environment, particularly our use of plastics and the negative effect it has on our world
If you go shopping, consider what bag you will use to bring it home in!
Our Form Time Reading this week was an extract today from a non-fiction book written by Isabel Thomas called “This Book is not Rubbish”.
Isabel Thomas is a science writer and environmentalist. She writes for various science magazines and has written lots of science based fiction and non-fiction books. She also works with Oxford University and their “Parents for STEM” encouraging children from diverse backgrounds to get into Science and Technology.
