With this week, having been Carers Week 2021 and Thursday , the focus of form time reading has been from a novella called “Message Alert (Between The Lines II)” by Anne Evans.

It is written from the perspective of a young carer looking after her mother who has ME….. This is one of a series of ‘Between The Lines’ books for teenagers.

 

Between the Lines II is a series of eight brand new titles that will capture the interest and imaginations of teenage readers. These texts have a range of settings – from sports clubs and schools to unfamiliar and chilling visions of the future – and they have been written by experienced authors who are experts in developing stories for struggling readers. Mature themes are covered and include the dangers of internet chat rooms, crime, grief, female empowerment, friendship, bullying and dystopian futures. With eye-catching covers and the look and feel of a real novel, these books perfectly combine visual appeal with carefully chosen content that is both compelling and relevant for teenagers and young adults.

#VolunteersWeek2021 – A Green ‘Thank You’ from EGS to Sarah :-)

As we come to the end of Volunteers Week 2021, we must definitely say a massive green  ‘Thank You’ to Sarah (parent volunteer) who is the lead for our ever growing and popular gardening club that meets every Wednesday lunchtime.

Her commitment and contribution to the school on a weekly basis has developed a brilliant project which celebrates the importance of respecting our gardens and outdoor spaces and the impact it has on our wellbeing. The project has ‘grown’ in a way that would have been impossible without her naturally infectious knowledge and passion to educate younger people about plants and gardening.

I support of Carers Week 2021 – Make Caring Visible and Valued – EyPIC (Enfield Young People In Caring) are running ‘Introduction to EyPIC’ sessions for all those who work with children aged 5-18 years in Enfield; meet the EyPIC team, find out more about Young Carers, how they support them, and the referral process!

Can You Help Support Our Student?

You will have heard through school letters, local news and on social media about the terrible road traffic accident that recently happened in Enfield Town, involving one of our Year 11 students.  This has left him with life-changing injuries and he is still in hospital.  The School has received many messages of kindness, offering help and support for the student and his family.

This page has been set up to facilitate the collection of any financial contributions that people wish to make.
Following discussions with his family, any monies raised will be shared between the hospital who are taking care of his medical needs, and to cover costs of any ongoing treatment to aid in his recovery.

Amnesty International Day – 28th May 2021

This week’s Form Time Reading has linked to Amnesty International Day today.
The extract is taken from an amazing graphic novel called “When Stars are scattered” by Victoria Jamieson and Omar Mohamed. The latter used his own personal experience to influence the novel.
It is set in a refugee camp called Dadaab in Kenya and tells the true story (with some creative flair in some instances) of Omar and his nonverbal brother Hassan and their lives in the refugee camp.
It is a beautiful story with amazing illustrations – sadly, our scanners only come in black and white so please encourage students to have a look at the book in the library to see the gorgeous colours and artwork.
