EDI Meeting on 21/7/21

You may recall that during October 2020, I hosted a number of online forums with parents/carers to discuss issues around Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). From these meetings a working party was set up and we have reviewed the progress that the School has made against our EDI objectives set for 2020-21 EDI and have set new objectives for 2021-22.

I would like to meet with any parents/carers who would like an update on our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion objectives and on how parents/carers can help plan for EDI events in the next academic year.

The meeting, will be held remotely via ‘Zoom’ at 6pm on Wednesday 21 July 2021.

All parents/carers are invited to this meeting. You will be able to book your space using the booking platform called ‘Eventbrite’.

Impressionable Minds on Crime Awareness

Yesterday, Year 9 were involved in a ‘Crime Awareness’ Workshop Day run by the award winning provider, ‘Impressionable Minds’.

In these workshops specific issues on crime were be discussed with the aim to raise awareness of topics that are relevant to young people.

In all cases and in all the workshops, appropriate and up to date advice and guidance was given with the central theme of the day to give our boys the awareness and skills to identify and avoid the dangers of criminal and anti-social behaviour.

Fearless

It was great to have Fearless in to deliver some important messages to help ensure our students make good choices in and out of school.  Fearless working with Enfield  Youth service and is aimed at 11-16 year olds. It is tasked with increasing awareness of the dangers surrounding street crime, drugs and violence. Armed with a belief in the power of prevention and intervention, Fearless aims to help our future generations navigate a safe path to adulthood.

We are so proud of Dom, Luc and Ed in Year 10 who have been volunteering at a local vaccination centre as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award.

A great example of our boys living the School’s motto Tant Que Je Puis (As Much As I Can).

International Plastic Free Bag Day

It is International Plastic Free Bag Day today!
This is a global initiative that aims to eliminate the use of single-use plastic bags in the world and makes us consider our impact on the environment, particularly our use of plastics and the negative effect it has on our world
If you go shopping, consider what bag you will use to bring it home in!
Our Form Time Reading this week was an extract today from a non-fiction book written by Isabel Thomas called “This Book is not Rubbish”.
Isabel Thomas is a science writer and environmentalist. She writes for various science magazines and has written lots of science based fiction and non-fiction books. She also works with Oxford University and their “Parents for STEM” encouraging children from diverse backgrounds to get into Science and Technology.

EPS Telephone Support Line for Parents & Carers

The EPS will be continuing to offer the telephone support line and, at present, are looking at continuing to offer this until March 2022. Our aim is to respond to parents/carers within 3 days of receiving the request. We receive positive feedback from parents/carers who use this service.

A few comments that we recently received about what parents/carers found helpful:

“The psychologist listened to me and she also gave me some advice and things to try”

 ”It is so lovely that there are people who can help us to go in the right direction”

 “My EP consultant listened to all my inquiries and gave me excellent information & advice”

 “My psychologist was extremely supportive and gave me sound advice. I found her extremely approachable and helpful, she was amazing!”

 “Strategies for us to use with our daughter but also help to make the relevant people aware of the help we need going forward”

 “All of it! help with telling me about other services”

Know Your Onions!

Know Your Onions
We have been delighted to work alongside the charity, School Food Matters, with the “Know Your Onions” project.
We have delivered 2 workshops this term – planting and growing where the students learnt about seasonal fruit and vegetables and a cooking session that allowed the students to prepare a range of healthy meals using fresh produce.
Our 3rd session next term will see our students visit our local market to sell their school grown produce.
