We were truly honoured to have Leon Mckenzie, ex-professional footballer and boxer, visit our school today and speak to our boys.

He has excelled at two sports at the highest level and now he shares his story about his mental health history and how he tries to overcome it a day at a time.

Leon delivered the message that it’s ok not to be ok. That mental health affects us all at some point(s) in our lives.

That we can all work hard to be “good” men; that good men talk, cry, share, help, empathise and to be kind.

A boy who is supported is a man who helps others.
 
At Enfield Grammar School we believe that boys who are supported become men who help others.
Our Peer Mentors meet regularly with younger students to support their emotional health and well-being, providing guidance to help them navigate their way through secondary school.
They offer a smile and a friendly face and give their mentees the opportunity to discuss a range of topics with students who have “walked in their shoes”

Today we see the beginning of Black History Month and EGS is celebrating this by delivering a full timetable of related events throughout October;

BHM lessons, assemblies, international dishes, baking, form time activities, art competition (portrait of an inspirational black/ethnic role model) and related content reading.

We are also proud to be receiving special guests (Leon McKenzie, DJ Spoony and Michael Duberry) to talk about their experiences followed by Q&A sessions.

Meet PC Brotherton 🙂

He is our allocated Safer Schools Officer based in Upper School.

What do safer school officers see as the best part of their role? Dealing with students on a more personal level rather than just as a police officer.

PC Brotherton is on hand for anyone who may need advise or help, have concerns or worries and is happy to meet in complete confidence.

If you pass PC Brotherton in school, make sure you say ‘hello’ – he is a very friendly chap!

Safer Schools Team – PC Brotherton available from 10am for Years 9 to 13 on Mondays,  Tuesdays & Fridays in Mr Smith’s office.

(Lower School students can request a visit)
