A message from Lloyds to our students:

First things first: we’re not an insurance company. Nor are we connected with any bank.

Lloyd’s is actually a market, where risks that need to be covered are put to insurers who can provide protection, ensuring that social and economic progress can continue across the globe. And as a Corporation, we enable that protection; managing the space and overseeing all aspects of the business.

Lloyds is offering students….

Join us for a week of face to face workshops and networking, delving into Lloyd’s and the insurance industry, in partnership with Aon.

The programme will run from Tuesday 25th July – Friday 28th July 2023.

Aimed at GCSE and A-Level students, you will experience the working environment of two global businesses throughout a week of workshops, networking and gain an insight into career opportunities within Lloyd’s and Aon.

Please note the Insight Week will take place in London and the attendance is mandatory for the 4 days. You must be able to travel into London as we are not providing accommodation expenses.

What’s involved?

During the week you will undertake a number of workshops, including:

  • Introduction to the Insurance industry
  • Personal development workshops
  • Introduction to Broking and Underwriting
  • Meet our current graduates and apprentices
  • Introduction to data
  • CV and interview hints and tips

Reach Employability Day

The Employability Day was an innovative event at the School and it was organised by Reach Society at the invitation of the head teacher, Mr Chris Lamb, who wanted to provide all pupils with the opportunity to develop their awareness of future pathways beyond school; and to inspire them to get into the habit of exploring and making discoveries which they can then use to make a success of their lives.

It was a busy day with a real buzz in the air; lots of motivational talks and information giving – we hope the students enjoyed it as much as all our guests.

Stephen Lawrence Day 2023

Marking 30 years since the tragic loss of Stephen Lawrence, 2023 shares the theme of ‘ordinary can be extraordinary’ and asking all to “pledge an action to positively impact the lives of young people from marginalised backgrounds, together we can honour Stephen’s life and legacy, and build a fairer, kinder and more equitable society in his name”.
“make sure the next 30 years look different from the last.”

As Ramadan comes to an end, Eid-Al-Fitr commences…

Eid Mubarak! We wish our Muslim community a Happy Eid.

Once Ramadan is over Muslims then celebrate Eid al-fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, with a feast. The celebration means ‘festival of the breaking of the fast’.

Eid al-Fitr is subject to sightings of the moon. While the celebration comes around a month after the beginning of Ramadan, the date also depends on the sighting of the crescent moon. The moon will not be visible at the same time across the world, so countries will celebrate the occasion over two days.

The day itself has a long history, originating from the Islamic prophet Muhammad, with some traditions believing they were initiated in Medina after his migration to Mecca, which dates back to 622 AD.

Muslims celebrate the day with a specific salat – or Islamic prayer – which has two rakats (units).

What food is eaten on Eid al-Fitr?

Food is also a huge staple of this celebration. These tend to be of a more sweeter nature, with Eid al-Fitr also dubbed “sweet Eid”.

There are a wide range of foods eaten on this day, largely depending on where in the world it is being celebrated.

However, some of the favourites include:

  • Boeber – A sweet milk drink made by cooking vermicelli with dates, originating in South Africa
  • Ghraybeh – These are a Middle Eastern shortbread cookie, which contain a pistachio on the top
  • Sohan Asali – This is an Iranian pastry or sweet, made with honey, sugar, saffron, almond or other nuts

Introducing Nathaniel Peat – Special Guest at our Employability Day

Excited to announce yet another inspiring guest who will be helping to deliver our Employability Day on 30th March;

Nathaniel Peat is a Multi-Award-Winning Entrepreneur, International Speaker (inc TEDx), Business Coach, Engineer, Pilot, and man of many talents & achievements.

He is listed on the 2017 Black Power List; 2018 & 17 EMPower Financial Times List and 2016 saw an entry onto the Financial Times Upstanding 100 BME Executive List.

Nathaniel is co-founder of Gennex Solar which provides innovative renewable energy products in Africa and The Caribbean.

He also founded The Safety Box; a company whose training and development programmes assist with reducing youth violence & help young people develop important skills such as leadership, communication and conflict resolution.

In 2015 Peat was the only UK entrepreneur selected by Virgin Unite to attend a week long leadership gathering on Necker Island with Sir Richard Branson.

Nat is an Honorary Fellow of Brunel University, and his work has featured in publications such as Forbes, Entrepreneur & Huffington Post.

Nathaniel was also a former Trustee and co-founder of EY (Ernst & Young) Foundation since 2014 and now acts as a Patron to the charity.

He is the chairman of Jamaicans Inspired, the largest Diaspora organisation in Europe, and in 2020 he was elected to the board of the Global Jamaica Diaspora Council for the South UK becoming a consultative advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Jamaica on investment, trade, and sustainable development.

In 2021 he became the Chairman of Brunel University Business School and was invited by Lloyds Banking Group to sit on the Black Advisory Board.

Nathaniel’s life continues to inspire many people and he remains connected to the community that he serves, he is an international acclaimed speaker, youth advocate and ambassador for various social causes including fighting for racial equality.
