Christmas Card Competition – Winner Revealed!

20th December 2024Mrs S Field

Well done to all the students who entered this year’s Christmas card competition set by Mrs Wertheimer. They all showed a lot of creativity and embraced the seasonal theme.

After much deliberation, Heath Herringshaw in Year 7P was announced the winner.  Heath has his design made into the official EGS card, receives a pack of cards for himself, his design printed on a mug and of course a winners certificate.

Congratulations Heath!!

Prize-Giving 2024

20th December 2024Mrs S Field

Our Annual Prize Giving evening was standing room only on Wednesday as students from all year groups received their subject prizes for their work last year.

We choose to hold our Prize-Giving ceremony late in the Autumn term so that our last year’s 13s can also attend, being home from University for Christmas. It’s so lovely to hear how their first term has gone.

John Skipper, an Old Boy and retired surgeon was our guest of honour and he gave an inspiring, moving speech about the importance of education and resilience. A message that aligns beautifully with all that we do here at EGS.

It’s such an honour to watch all the prize winners come onto the stage and collect their envelope in which there is also a book voucher.

Enfield Grammar School Trustees fund the prizes every year and I want to personally thank them for maintaining this wonderful tradition. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening for the students, their parents/carers, Governors and staff alike.

Jingle & Mingle Alumni Event

19th December 2024Mrs S Field

Well we definitely mingled and few of us jingled on this special evening when some of our ‘old boys’ come back to share stories of their time at EGS. It was so lovely to see familiar faces and also some new old boys who came along to see the old place.

This is definitely now an annual event so please do share it with any ex-students and staff that you know and we look forward to next year’s event that will be held in the Tudor Hall in December 25.

If any of our Alumni would like to to be added to our alumni pages, please email [email protected] with your details and short history/timeline of your career since leaving EGS.

A Spectacular Christmas Concert….

18th December 2024Mrs S Field

Last Friday we had our annual Christmas concert which was a sell-out with not even standing room to spare!

The Year 7 Band and ‘Strings & Things’ made their debut, our Steel Pans group wowed the crowd, and Year 8, 9 and 10 bands rocked hard albeit in a festive manner, with Groove Band, Little Big Band and the Rhythm & Brass band all bringing sonorous tones to proceedings.

Student led bands, Space Goose and Purple Elixir brought the house down and the evening was raucously finished by Senior Band featuring members of staff and the wild man of rock, our very own Mr Leverno. A fitting end to a fantastic, festive, fun-filled evening.

A huge thank you to Chaslet Sound (parent to one of our Year 8s) who provided the amazing lights and sound helping to create this spectacular concert.

The dedication and  passion of our music department team are not only teachers of music, they provide a place of creativity, respect, opportunities and support for our students. They are one big musical family……we are really very proud of them all (staff and students).

Happy Christmas!

A Very Christmassy Day at EGS!

13th December 2024Mrs S Field

Wednesday was Christmas Jumper and Christmas Lunch Day. Along with the school office decorated in tinsel and the tree up in the hall, our Kitchen teams (who deserve a big christmas cheer!)  were in their element, joining in the festive spirit; dressed up, dining halls decorated and serving a wonderful lunch for everyone to enjoy.

Christmas Jumper donations collected in support of Save The Children charity raised a total of £150 – thank you to all students and staff who joined in.

And with festive tunes playing in the background……………it is definitely beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Music Mentor, Alumni, Mercury Prize Winner, Femi from Ezra Collective, Visits EGS

11th December 2024Mrs S Field
Yesterday, we were lucky enough to welcome Femi Koleoso to EGS for an inspirational talk with our Music Scholars. Femi is an ex-Grammar boy, and Mercury Prize winning member of Ezra Collective, who recently became the first jazz group to sell out Wembley Arena and really wowed the crowds at Glastonbury last year.

He gave the boys an invaluable insight to getting on in the music industry and encouraged them to aim high and work hard because anything is achievable. He asked about their dreams and aspirations and answered questions on what it felt like to play Wembley and Glastonbury. He even had a little time to reminisce on Art lessons with Mr Chrysanthou and Maths with Mr Kodjoe, and of course his beloved music lessons!
Drummer Femi formed Ezra Collective along with his brother, bass guitarist TJ (also an ex-Grammar boy), and has played with Gorillaz and Jorja Smith, toured the world and written and released several highly acclaimed albums.

Thank you so much to him for taking the time to come back to his old stomping ground and motivate our talented young musicians!

Christmas Jumper Day! Wednesday 11 December

10th December 2024Mrs S Field

On Wednesday 11 December 2024, Enfield Grammar School will be supporting Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day by encouraging our staff and students to wear a Christmas Jumper in place of our usual school blazer.

We encourage students to wear a Christmas-themed jumper (no hoodies or non-Christmas jumpers) along with their usual uniform (shirts, shoes, ties and trousers should still be worn in
the normal way).

Students are asked to make a voluntary donation of £1 or whatever they can afford with all funds supporting Save the Children’s work in helping children build a better future. Donations will be collected during morning registration.

We are celebrating Christmas Jumper Day to coincide with our school Christmas Lunch and hope that as many of our students as possible get involved in our Christmas Bonanza.

Thank you for your ongoing support during these busy few weeks.

⚽ 5 Games. 5 Finals. 5 Wins. 5 Borough Cups!🏆
🔥 EGS on fire!

Our Y10 football team made it four Borough Cup wins for the school last week with an incredible come‑from‑behind 4–1 victory!
And they didn’t have long to wait for company…
Yesterday, our Y7s delivered a brilliant performance of their own, winning their cup final 4–2!

That means 5 out of 5 Borough Cups this year — a clean sweep!

Huge congratulations to all the boys who represented the school so brilliantly, and a massive thank‑you to our Sports Department for their hard work and support – definitely a reflection of our school motto: As Much As I Can’!
