#FavouriteBookFriday with Mr Lamb (…again!)

22nd October 2021Mrs S Field
For #FavouriteBookFriday this week, we have another offering from Mr Lamb; Foucault’s Pendulum by Umberto Eco.

‘I love this book. Eco is a genius and intertwines a murder mystery with historical conspiracy theories beautifully. Love it!!

“I believe that what we become depends on what our fathers teach us at odd moments, when they aren’t trying to teach us. We are formed by little scraps of wisdom.”

Real Life Role Models Visit EGS #BHM #mentors

20th October 2021Mrs S Field

Michael Duberry (old boy & ex pro-footballer) and DJ Spoony (friend of EGS & garage legend) came to EGS to talk about life, careers, choices, barriers, family, biases and racism, as part of Black History Month and Grammar’s ongoing drive to give hope and inspiration to all.

Mr Lamb took them for a coffee and bumped into Andy Cole (ex pro-footballer), as you do!

Thank you to Raymond Cathline, a school governor, who has been one of our leads in organising all our #BHM events.

A boy who is adventurous is a man that prospers..

19th October 2021Mrs S Field
At Enfield Grammar School we believe that boys who take the opportunity to be adventurous become men who overcome challenges and prosper.
Our school enrichment programme gives all students the opportunity to be adventurous; to experience new things and develop new skills. Our programme includes various sports clubs, creative opportunities and more academic challenges too.
Our Duke of Edinburgh Award Programme gives students the direct opportunity to experience the great outdoors and develop a love of adventure and challenge.

#FavouriteBookFriday – with Ms Mageswaran

15th October 2021Mrs S Field
#FavouriteBookFriday
We’re ending the week with a book chosen by Ms Mageswaran from our Maths Department;
The Toss of a Lemon by Padma Viswanathan.

‘The book looks at the relationship between 3 generations of a family through the turbulent first half of the 20th century, as India endures great social and political change. It really makes the reader understand, but also question, the social norms and systems that still exist around the world. It was so far removed yet relatable as a South Asian woman living in a changing world.’

“She had always thought of her life as a series of submissions to God. What if she had been making her own decisions all along?”

⚽ 5 Games. 5 Finals. 5 Wins. 5 Borough Cups!🏆
🔥 EGS on fire!

Our Y10 football team made it four Borough Cup wins for the school last week with an incredible come‑from‑behind 4–1 victory!
And they didn’t have long to wait for company…
Yesterday, our Y7s delivered a brilliant performance of their own, winning their cup final 4–2!

That means 5 out of 5 Borough Cups this year — a clean sweep!

Huge congratulations to all the boys who represented the school so brilliantly, and a massive thank‑you to our Sports Department for their hard work and support – definitely a reflection of our school motto: As Much As I Can’!
