For this week…
For this week…
ITV’s political editor and the founder of ‘Speakers of Schools’, Mr Robert Peston, visited the school last Friday (26th) and was interviewed on stage in the Main Hall by two year 13 students – Serban Beta and Qae Benjamin-Fleming.
Mr Peston initially gave an insight into his schooling, university and how he became a journalist before answering questions posed by students that were collated in advance of his visit.
After the interview, Mr Peston chose two questions he thought were the best of the day.
The two students whose questions were chosen each received a signed copy of Mr Peston’s latest book ‘Bust’. The questions that won the prize were:
“If you woke up as Chancellor and had carte blanche on policy, what changes would you make first and why?” This question was asked by Serban Beta from Year 13, and,
“Is there a way to get politicians to focus on long term economic growth rather than the short run which is always used to gain votes for the next election? This was asked by Ewan Neilson from Year 12.
Before departing, Mr Peston gave salient advice to our students as he recounted how it took him time to realise what he wanted to do with his life.
He told students to: “…always aim high, don’t sell yourselves short…” and to “…put yourselves into positions to have choices…”
We thank Mr Peston for his time and look forward to welcoming him back in the future.

We would like to congratulate Felix on achieving a music grade 3 in Violin AND grade 5 in Piano! It is quite an accomplishment to be studying 2 instruments and passing grades at the same time – Fantastic achievement, Felix.
Felix started playing the piano by the time he was in Year 3 and then decided to take up the violin as well in year 7. The decision to take up piano was mainly due to the fact that his brother already played the instrument, however, Felix wanted to play a second string instrument, unique to him and decided on violin over the cello.
Although he has not joined any school bands yet, he does perform at our concerts.
Felix told us; ” I have really enjoyed music and I am picking music for GCSE because the music department is really good!”
