Write 2 Speak

27th November 2024Mrs S Field
The Write 2 Speak programme, proudly sponsored by Nexus, was an exhilarating and inspiring journey for a group of Year 9 students, focusing on the dynamic art of spoken word with a special celebration of Black History Month.
The programme comprised three vibrant and active-learning workshops, culminating in a spectacular live performance at the Dugdale Centre on November 15th.
Congratulations to all the boys who took part in this programme and especially to our Dugdale performers; Aaron, Ellis, George, Lamar, Micah, Otis, Samir, Shane and Henry – well done boys!
While all performances at the Dugdale were exceptional, Micah’s performance stole the show and will be featured in a montage being created by Write 2 Speak for promotional purposes.
Henry wrote about men’s mental health which was particularly appropriate during Men’s Health Month November / Movember.
Workshops
The workshops were brilliantly crafted to explore the rich and vibrant tapestry of Black history and culture through the medium of spoken word. This focus on Black History Month added a layer of depth and relevance to the programme, making it even more celebratory and meaningful. Students enthusiastically delved into historical narratives, cultural themes, and personal experiences, using poetry and prose to express their insights and emotions with passion and creativity. Each workshop built on the previous one, providing a thrilling learning journey that combined historical education with artistic expression.
The engagement level among the students was phenomenal. They eagerly participated in lively discussions about significant figures and events in Black history, individual and collaborative writing exercises, and individual performances. The workshops nurtured a sense of community and mutual respect, encouraging students to share their perspectives and learn from one another in an atmosphere of excitement and camaraderie. The supportive environment allowed students to explore sensitive topics with confidence, empathy, and a sense of pride.
Performance at the Dugdale Centre
The culmination of the programme was the live performance at the Dugdale Centre on November 15th, which was nothing short of extraordinary. Students presented their spoken word pieces, each delivering a powerful and moving performance that left the audience in awe. The event was a joyous celebration of their hard work, creativity, and the rich cultural heritage they had explored. The audience, including parents, teachers, and peers, was deeply moved and inspired by the students’ eloquence and the emotional depth of their presentations.

International Men’s Day

19th November 2024Mrs S Field

The 2024 theme, “Positive Male Role Models,” highlights the importance of fostering open conversations about men’s mental health and creating supportive environments where men can thrive. https://internationalmensday.com/

Let’s all take time to think about and appreciate the positive impacts that a close male relation or friend may have had on us and let them know they are appreciated and needed.

Happy IMD2024 to our students!

In support of Movember, this coming Friday, our Lower School students are encouraged to buy a moustache (20p) to wear for the day from the lower school – or they can wear one of their own!

We also ask that any spare money/change can be brought in to the lower school office to donate to the Movember charity (in support of men’s health and wellbeing)

⚽ 5 Games. 5 Finals. 5 Wins. 5 Borough Cups!🏆
🔥 EGS on fire!

Our Y10 football team made it four Borough Cup wins for the school last week with an incredible come‑from‑behind 4–1 victory!
And they didn’t have long to wait for company…
Yesterday, our Y7s delivered a brilliant performance of their own, winning their cup final 4–2!

That means 5 out of 5 Borough Cups this year — a clean sweep!

Huge congratulations to all the boys who represented the school so brilliantly, and a massive thank‑you to our Sports Department for their hard work and support – definitely a reflection of our school motto: As Much As I Can’!
