The Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge, a national speech competition that is run with Year 10 pupils every year, is a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn confidence and eloquence. Thousands of students took part last year and we were thrilled that our very own Ethan Bousoula won the nationals with his hilarious, wise and moving words.
Last week, the English department was delighted to run an awards ceremony for Ethan with The Speakers Trust. The Mayor of Enfield, Ethan’s father, and other representatives from the Speaker’s Trust attended the ceremony with the rest of Year 11 to recognise Ethan’s great achievement and congratulate him on this impressive accolade. Year 11 made us proud as a supportive and mature audience.
Ethan serves as a great example for this year’s competition hopefuls and he gave some sage advice to our Year 10 students who are currently taking part in the competition. The first workshop kicks off next week – good luck boys!
EGS looks forward to hosting the Regional Finals of the competition in February of 2024, where Ethan will no doubt be supporting this year’s local finalists.
