Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
I hope this letter finds you well in these difficult times. I am writing to you as Enfield
Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s’ Services, Protection & Education.
As you will be aware, the government have asked secondary schools to consider
opening from the 15th June to pupils from Year 10 and Year 12. Some schools may
open on the 15th June whereas others may open at a later date. Schools will need to
ensure that it is safe to open and because each secondary school is different, schools
may well open in different ways. This will be based on the risk assessments that
schools carry out which will include looking at the safety of the school site, staff
available to teach, the practicality of social distancing and a range of other factors. The
government have advised that only a quarter of a year group should be on site at one
time.
The government have advised that pupils should have some face to face teaching
time. This will mean that schools may be inviting children into school for some lessons
and/or for pastoral support. For some schools, it may not be possible to open in this
way and they may continue with online support with lessons and schoolwork being
provided for children to complete at home.
Your school will contact you about the specific arrangements that will be/are in place
for your school and please direct any specific questions to your own school.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all involved in schools
including teachers and support staff for the work they have been doing during the
COVID19 crisis. I would also like to thank all of you – parents, guardians, carers and of
course the children as well in combating the virus by social distancing, self-isolating
when necessary and all the other things we need to do to help the NHS and battle
coronavirus.
