For British Science Week, the EGS Science Dept are focusing on a different ‘Did You Know’ fact each day. Every form time, the boys will be posed a question or given a fact to encourage discussion;
Yesterday, following on from Careers Weeks last week, they asked:
Did you know that as climate change is escalating, the demand for careers that are helping is also growing?
Many Universities now offer degrees in environmental sciences and many career routes now include options to help protect the environment.
Today; Did you know, transport is the largest emitting sector of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, producing 27% of the UK’s total emissions in 2019? Do you think it’s higher or lower for London?
Wednesday: Did you know, new born babies have 100 more bones than adults? This gives babies extra flexibility and helps them grow rapidly. As you get older, many bones fuse, leaving you with on 206 bones! So, roughly, how many bones does a new born baby have? 🙂
Thursday: Did you know that the Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world? Tall buildings have led to the development of fast lifts; the fastest lift can travel at more than 30mph – that is faster than Olympic sprinters!
Friday: Did you know, that snake venom has been used to develop top medicines used in high blood pressure, heart failure and heart attacks? Where do most of our medicines originate from?
