Purim is a Jewish celebration that commemorates Esthers saving of the Jewish people from extermination.
It starts on sunset Thurs 16th till nightfall of Fri 17th Feb.
Activities such as public reading, sharing festive food, giving to charity, dressing up, making a noise and attending a synagogue traditionally take place.
In Hebrew the felicitation said is ‘chag Purim samayach‘ – pronounced KHAG poo-REEM sah-MAY-akh
In Yiddish the felicitation said is ‘ah freilichen Purim‘ – FRAY-likh-en POO-rim
