The Student Support Wellbeing Team supports students’ emotional welfare and wellbeing.
The wellbeing service is available Monday to Friday, during school hours. Students often refer to the wellbeing area as one of the βsafe spacesβ in the school, a description our team is extremely proud of. Students access our service for a range of reasons.
The wellbeing team can support students with issues impacting on them both inside and outside of school which may be affectingΒ theirΒ grades and school work, but our focus is on themΒ as a whole person andΒ theirΒ emotional wellbeing. We believe that if a young person’s emotional needs are met, they will be able to access learning and engage in school life and lifelong learning in a way that they would not otherwise be able to do.
The range of work includes one to one support, group work, year group projects and whole school working. Some of the areas we work alongside include –
- Bereavement
- Anger management
- Poor sleep hygiene
- Substance misuse
- Peer relations
- Mediation
- Improving communication
- Supporting young carers
- Developing emotional regulation
- Deliberate self harm
We work in partnership with a number of local and national charities and specialist services to ensure our students are supported using best practices. These include Grief Encounters, Rethink Mental Health, Papyrus, Leap Confronting Conflict, Proud, Galop, The Lighthouse, Enfield Youth Service, Enfield Substance Misuse Team, Enfield Scorpions, Enfield’s Youth Boxing Programme, Enfield Carers Centre and School Foods Matter amongst many others. Enfield GrammarΒ are working with the local authority to become a trauma informed school.
Students are able to self refer themselves to our team for their own support needs or speak to us about another student who they may have concerns about. They can do this through a number of ways including, in person, through our open door policy, through their Form Tutors, Heads of Year or if it feels easier, through emailing one of the Wellbeing Team. Any member of EGS staff can also raise a student to the team for support.
If you would like any additional information on the team or the services provided, please email Mrs Yianni atΒ [email protected]
Pastoral Structure
There are clear links between excellent student behaviour, student achievement and studentsβ holistic well-being and we want to ensure that we have the best possible behaviour and pastoral systems in place.
Students are placed in a house group when they join the school inΒ yearΒ 7 and will remain in this house throughout their journey with us. This helps to create and build a sense of community with house competitions taking place and merits being awarded.
Each form has a form tutor who is the first point of contact for students and who sees them daily. The form tutor plays a key role in looking after the welfare of their students.
EachΒ yearΒ group has a head ofΒ yearΒ who oversees the pastoral care for theirΒ yearΒ and monitors their progress.
To help enforce behaviour and support pastoral requirements, we have raised the role of the form tutor, restructured the School day and have a Student Wellbeing Manager to work as part of the Inclusion Team and Student Support focused on the physical and emotional welfare and well-being of our students.
