Music Tuition Application Form
LESSONS
We hope to begin lessons from Monday, September 21st subject to certain conditions being met and precautionary arrangements being in place by that time. This being the case, both staff and parents may need to be a little flexible and timetables will be prepared with the proviso that things may change.
PRACTICE ROOMS
There will be large perspex screens to provide a solid clear barrier between tutor and student in all of the practice rooms. The coverage of these screens will be a total of 2m x 2m (two one metre wide screens in each room) and the screens will be on stands and so can be moved to suit the instruments being played. Visors will be provided for staff who wish to use them and hand sanitiser will be available in each practice room to be used by both staff and students on entry. Please note that Practice Room 2 is no longer in use for instrumental lessons. Lessons will take place in Practice Rooms 1, 3 and 4. The windows are the Practice Rooms on the ground floor have been repaired and now open properly for ventilation.
INSTRUMENTS
Students must use their own instruments for lessons – this includes instruments which are on long-term hire from school and so are effectively their own instruments for these purposes. Boys must bring their own drumsticks for drum lessons. This will be a strict rule with no exceptions and includes guitars and bass guitars as well as items such as mouthpieces for brass and woodwind instruments. Boys may leave their instruments in the room where their lesson will take place during the school day but must collect them before they leave so that there is room for instruments in the rooms the following day. The instrument cupboard will not be in use for the time being. Instruments left behind will be locked away and cannot be re-claimed until 72 hours have elapsed.
STUDENTS
Students from all Years will be taught in their usual Practice Rooms in the Music Block at Lower School. Upper School students will be taught early or late in the school day where possible and there is a set route for Upper School students to use walking over to Lower School so that they avoid interaction with Year 7 and 8 students. Students will be taught consecutively according to their Year groups as far as possible but where this is not possible staff will wipe down all equipment, music stands, seats, door handles etc. with sanitiser between students. Appropriate cleaning equipment and gloves will be provided for this to be done. Students must be “in and out”; they will be not be allowed to wait in the foyer outside the music office nor to come into the Music Office. However, the door to the Music Office will be open but with a rope barrier so that students and staff can speak to Miss Penfold when she is at her desk.
OTHER PRECAUTIONS
Staff have been asked to keep in their own Practice Rooms as far as possible for the time being and to bring their own refreshments to avoid close interaction with others.
BANDS
Regarding bands, we are hoping that the Year 8 Band will be able to start shortly, hopefully on the 28th September. The position regarding other bands is still being reviewed and more information will be available shortly.
